did yall really think a bunch of internet posts were gonna do it? Let's be real, these boycotts aren't nearly as organized and pushed as they were in the 60s. We need urgency. Not just "if you participate in this, you're a c00n." I know several black leaders have talked to it but next year we should work on stressin our point and really building a machine behind the cause.

The Montgomery bus boycott has always been fascinating to me for the simply fact how they were able to get all those African Americans on the same page to support a common goal

Millions of black folks were supposed to

There was a million man march about it

:what:

There was no march and the gathering in DC was NOT about boycotting Black Friday. Minister Farrakhan did implore us to boycott the holiday gift giving altogether, but that wasn't the focal point of the speech(es).

Like I said in another thread, y'all only touted this weak ass plan because you knew it would fail and it would give you a chance to chastise black people. It's a dumb plan which you've failed to sell anybody on. I'd bet most of those with their noses up never shop on Black Friday anyways so they didn't even have to 'sacrifice', they'd just stand in the cut with their soap box ready to grandstand at a moment's notice.

The most storied boycott in this country's history is the the bus boycotts in Alabama. That had a very specific target: the bus company. They didn't boycott local businesses in hopes that those owners would pressure the bus company into changing its policies...They went directly at the target. That boycott had a very specific goal: stop the policy of mistreating black riders. Everybody involved or just watching from the sidelines knew exactly what would need to happen in order to stop the boycott....change those policies. Furthermore, that boycott realized that the boycott could not be successful if they just asked people not to ride the bus; people had bills to pay and mouths to feed. Thus they created mechanisms like shared rides that would actually make the boycott doable.

Even though they hit the pockets (significantly) of the entity with direct power over what they were asking and they were clear on what they were asking, that entity STILL held out for over a year before caving. Yet y'all really act like hitting the pockets of retailers for a weekend in the hopes that they'll guess your demands and then lean on politicians in order to get them to exact change with respect to police brutality? :childplease:

As much as I love my people; we've got to come up with something better than, "don't spend on holidays."

If black people aren't disciplined enough to do something as simple as NOT spend money then we're fukked.

This year I got my girlfriend and her parents to commit to only buy from black owned businesses this Christmas.

Nah... I went once when I was stationed in NO.

My captain paid me $200 to stand in line to get him this 72 inch LCDtv. I seen two nikkas fighting over a PS3. Like nikkas legit squared up and was dodging punches on some Wilfred Benitez shyt. After that I said I would never participate in another Black Friday.

Cyber Monday tho... :banderas:

Even during the period of the bus boycott, wasn't like it still wasn't a bunch of nikkas still getting on the white bus saying "look I got to go to work" and being pessimistic to the efforts of the movement. That is just how enslaved impoverished defeated people are going to be. In slavery it was blacks still staying at the plantations even after they declared it was over, and while it was ambitious blacks opening banks and stores, it was still blacks working as maids and cooks for white folks.

But the biggest failure is from the black church, who once was a home for political information and cared for the community, but since they started handing out the 501c3 and king died they all about hustling for breakthroughs and blessings and preachers never involving themselves with the community.

Idk know if ya'll keep up with the Zo What Morning Show. But 1 day they were talking about Blacks getting together and shorting the stock market. In theory that shyt would make noise. I don't think nikkas that aggregated enough yet for something like that though. Plus alot of ppl arent up on finance, but thats one of the best ideas i think i ever heard about really making real noise.

Black people can't even NOT spend on black Friday and you think they're gonna be organized enough to short the stock market :dahell:

All we can do is our part, my fam is boycotting to show solidarity and unity with our people and I'm teaching my children to be active when these issues arise. You don't just sit back act numb to the problems and then be pessimistic to those who do have the heart to take a stand.

And showing blacks at the stores acting a fool is even more of a reason we need to leave it alone.
