so why is Nebraska there...they aren't in the AAU anymore :comeon:

the AAU mess is just a narrative that they give the fans to make it seem like they are looking out for their best interest...but if that was really true they would've backed out of the Nebraska deal when the AAU dropped them...but they didn't

it's about money

This is the hypocrisy Loh and Anderson has forced me to associate myself with. :scusthov:

Len Elmore gets it :salute:
“Anything that’s driven solely by dollars, it’ll turn out badly,” Elmore said in a telephone interview.

Elmore expressed concern that the decision was driven exclusively by Athletic Director Kevin Anderson and university President Wallace Loh, neither of whom have “had any real affinity with Maryland pride.” Anderson became Maryland’s athletic director in 2010 after spending six years at Army, while Loh has Big Ten ties, having earned a doctorate from the University of Michigan. He also was provost at the University of Iowa before he was named Maryland’s president in 2010.

“This is not a decision solely to be made by the athletic director or the president,” Elmore said. “This thing is moving so quickly, I can’t see how they consulted members of the constituency.”

Casting Maryland as an “anxious buyer,” Elmore railed against what he viewed as a money-driven decision, an effort to curb the financial struggles the Maryland athletic department has endured in recent years.

“The last thing we can have is a sense of buyer’s remorse,” Elmore said. “I can sympathize with them with regards to the deficit and some of the financial burdens, but you have to balance these issues with the understanding of affinities of the fan base. When it comes down to it, I think it’ll be a bad move and generate remorse.”

Elmore pointed to the traditions and rivalries established by the Terrapins’ nearly 60-year ACC history and wondered if the Big Ten offered a comparable basketball rivalry to Maryland-Duke or Maryland-North Carolina. “Maryland-Purdue? Maryland-Iowa?” Elmore said.

“From a standpoint of tradition,” Elmore continued, “I didn’t think my alma mater would be looking for a money grab, one of the most pernicious things in all of college sports. … It’s nuts. They’re blinded by the dollars.”

fla state should move to the sec so we could run the table :youngsabo:

Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina would never approve their instate rivals going to the SEC.

When we (GT) had the chance to go back in the late 70s, those hatin b*stards at Bama who said they would vote in our favor, no showed.

Look at the history of the Big 10, it is the long-running conference, now look at who has been in that conference, is Nebraska not an aberration? :snoop:

Stop comparing the Big 10 to the other conferences. Even the Pac-1o with UCLA, Stanford Cal and USC (which wasn't always this highly regarded) doesn't have that type of consistency. I literally sat on the student panels that worked with the regents when I was in undergrad, I was there for those conversations and there was no acting.

For the big ten,it lowers our academic prestige and we can find better teams in better markets than those two. We good.

:childplease: :usure: :whoa:

College Rankings (US News & World Report )

9 ACC schools in the top 60 (7 currently, 9 with Pitt and Cuse and if MD stays)

6 Big 10 schools in the top 60.

Notre Dame's interests are more on the East Coast. It's always been a sticking point with them.

:childplease:. They are in Indiana and are an elite academic institution right next to a conference that has Michigan, Northwestern, and the University of Chicago (it's still part of the CIC). Most of Michigan's money comes from New York and California with the rich alums, that's no excuse.

That is straight from Notre Dame bruh. Don't hate the messenger. Location wise, the Big 10 makes more sense, but they don't want that and never did.

OK...you like that narrative...have fun with that...but the landscape now is DRAMATICALLY different than when the Big 10 formed

in fact the landscape in terms of dollars and cents now is dramatically different than it was just 5 years ago

so to use history as a way to defend moves now...doesn't do anything for me...the circumstances have changed...the almighty dollar is far more important to these conferences than their alums happiness...because at the end of the day no matter what the fans will still come back and watch the games...no matte what team they don't like added to the conference they will still watch...they will still flock to the schools and support the teams...so there's no reason for them to hold up this standard

it's simply something they say to the media...and then when they do something different they can just go. "we looked at our options and thought that even though it doesn't align with our previous standards this was still a move that we had to pursue."

Apparently, it's a done deal and an announcement is expected Monday at 4 p.m. MD has been working on this deal for the last three weeks and got exactly what they wanted.

From a football standpoint, they'll have to invest heavily in the program to keep it anywhere near competitive.
