I dig the song. Think its dope as fukk. :manny:

And how u famous for sampling and u complaining about ........sampling. I mean, I understand that he put the original beat together himself, but the original beat wasnt "original". He dug in the crates, so he gets credit. But its kinda parsing details, when its like "my unoriginality is better than ur unoriginality"

thats not the point according to Pete Rock. he just baically said, about 3 mins ago that they coulda did any other song, but that one. it holds a certain amount of sentimental value to him. dude seems really disappointed right now. he says that it probably came from upstairs (label execs)

Honestly speaking...why would he feel the need to apologize? The beat itself isn't an "original" beat by Pete Rock. The song itself is famous as much for the sentiment of CL's rhymes as Rock's production. Not taking ANYTHING away from the perfection of the original song, but the beat itself wasn't made from scratch by PR, it was a sample....

I think Pete wouldn't have as much a gripe with it, if it wasn't such an obvious attempt at not only the same sample, but the exact same way 'TROY' was done. You can see the arrangement is the exact same, the repeating snares is kinda the same, the drum sounds are identical... it's clearly a recreation of 'TROY'. If they were gonna do that, why not get the guy who did it first?

It'd be like someone re-doing the 'Kick in the Door' beat and people sayin' "naw, they just sampled the same song as Premier"... when the sh*t is damn near a dead ringer for how he flipped it.

As an artist, you put out your work for the public to consume and use in any manner they see fit. The work stands on its own as soon as its lefts the artists' hands, with the creator no longer holding ownership. Pete needs to understand that as a public good, TROY will be manipulated, discussed, or used in a manner he does not see fit. Lupe though, needs to respect the responsibility that comes with reworking what is one of the most important songs in hiphop. I'm not against using the sample, but the work has stand up to, or improve upon the source material.

:usure: considering TROY was a tribute to a friend who passed away, this seems a little I dont know, blasphemous?

I know people sample the same records and whatnot, but TROY means a lot to a lot of people, seems like he's just trying to get over to me, he's always been a bit "fake" for lack of a better term.

nikka this is hip hop. That's why I fukked your bytch you fat motherfukker would be in the preamble of the rap constitution.

I never thought that this nikka Lupe would fall out of the few artist that I actually anticipate dropping albums. But after Lasers and his style change from his earlier work/mixtapes I'm just tired of dude.

And yeah, I've heard him rap over this beat already. How you gonna drop a single for a new album with a beat you rapped over years ago?

:childplease:

Remember, most people dont listen to mixtapes at all. If he didnt rap over the song on one of his albums then for the most part people havent heard it.

lol, but to be honest lupe would kill alot of our goats lyrically.

true, but his carelessness and lack of protocol is making him despised

he needs to manage public perception of him better

first the Tribe incident and now Pete Rock is disgusted with his latest move
