sh*t, didn't realize that COVERING YOURSELF is an art in itself, like you being the artist can't even capture your song's uniqueness. Which further proves that when you do a song during that moment that you're feeling it, you DO IT during that moment or else you'll never capture that essence ever again. Music really is all about timing and the moment you capture :wow:

Taylor Swift, whose parents are Wall Street types, got stuck in a bad deal and is currently re-recording her albums as well. Rappers aren’t the only people getting fukked, it’s happening across the board and nothing is stopping it.

Out of all artists, i can't imagine putting out subpar covers.

Plus most of her songs are played with live instruments so they can probably recreate them pretty closely. Vocally will be where there will be some possible changes. But it's not likr she runs and riffs a bunch so she'll probably be fine

Maybe, maybe not. She released a statement saying she planned on adding in some different stuff here or there. These are songs that people have spent years listening to and growing sentimentally inclined to. Imagine if Nas had to recreate Illmatic in 2000 for instance. The transition from young 18-20yo Nas voice to an older, grown man voice would be jarring and throw things off. Even if he recreated it perfectly flow wise - which would be easy - the different voice/tone would be too much for many fans right? Same applies to modern artists having to recreate their shyt.

Hell, listen to this...

I've heard those dmx ones a few years ago and they're pretty bad...but mainly bc of production.

Imo, artists who tour with a live band, should just recreate the live versions in studio. If ur trying to recreate a drum machine or synth from 20 years ago, it's not gonna sound the same.

taylor is probably one of the few musicians alive who has both the resources AND the pettiness needed to make the re-recordings sound like the OGs. i say pettiness, because i imagine she's really looking forward to undermining the value of her masters to fukk over her old label + scooter braun, in order to eventually get them back at a discount. not to mention all the interviews/free press explaining how she pulled the feat off.

told y'all taylor wasn't fukking around. :russ:

ironically, the only other artist i can think of who has the $$$ and the pettiness to pull this off would be kanye, if he ever needed to.

although i dont think he could do it now (pre-marriage kanye tho? :whew:).

When EPMD released their greatest hits album in 1999, they had to re-record the songs they wanted to include from their first two albums, because the masters weren't owned by Def Jam.

I don't think it's a bad idea to re-record old songs, especially if you put out the original song when you were really young. You could do it with an improved voice, add some new arrangements, change up some of the lyrics that didn't make sense before. Just don't wait to do it when you're :flabbynsick: and don't have the chops anymore.

Also, I know I'm alone here, but this version >>>>>>>>>> the original:

I could let this slide if i never heard the original. Vinny didn’t sound too bad but when Treach came in:picard: Treach’s sound was a big reason why he was what he was back then. This version ain’t it. Also, do they really expect people to listen to these songs? After 20 or so years of listening to the ones we know? I can’t get jiggy with this shyt
