There was a Complex article about Blackground. The gist of it was the dude who owns the label (Aaliyah's uncle Barry Hankerson) owes a ton of money from lawsuit a woman filed against him for stalking her, and the label royalties are how he is supposed to pay her, and he's such a weirdo that he would rather just not generate any money through the label than have to pay the woman anything

:ohhh:Damn that's fukked up. So he's just screwing over however many artists that were on that label from getting streaming revenue, just so he doesn't have to pay royalties? :dwillhuh::scust:

Yeah Aaliyah's last two albums, Tank, Timbaland & Magoo, Static Major, Jojo, and I think Toni Braxton's music in the late 90's early 2000's might be in limbo because of this shyt.

So I'm listening to a playlist of some old school 2000 Pop Hits (What can I say, that's my childhood) :manny:

Anyway, Jojo's "Get Out" pops up on my Spotify, I instantly hit the :why: Thinking this doesn't sound like the original song at all. So I go to the album itself to find out it says Get Out (2018) along with every other song on the album.

I figured it was some label bullshyt she had to deal with, so I googled it and this came up.

Full Article:- JoJo on the Re-Release of Her First Two Albums, and What to Expect Next

There have been plenty of reports over the years about the dispute between you and your former label. Could you tell me in your words what exactly went down and why your first two albums were unavailable?

I wish I had a better reason for the first two albums not being available, but I think the simplest answer is that my former label just didn't make a deal with the streaming platforms. As far as I know, nobody's music from that label is available on streaming, which includes Aaliyah's last two albums. I wanted my music to be out there because if people were just discovering me for the first time, it looked like I started my career in 2016 with Mad Love. That was really weird for me, especially because I put out my first album when I was 13 in 2004.

This also explains why I could never find Aaliyah tracks unless they were on a random compilation album :ohhh:

I remember reading on here that DMX wanted to do something like that as well

Anyone else got anymore cases like this where the artist has had to re-record their shyt cause label problems?

Taylor Swift had to rerecord her early lps because she got into a issue with her masters.

EPMD had to re record their non Def Jam songs for their outta business lp second disc.

DMX re recorded some stuff also and it doesn’t sound good at all.

Then with that, he has my understanding but stalking women allegedly is not cool.

Slightly off topic but in regard of also re-recording tracks/having different versions, it also took me a long time to get used to the new version of Seduction on the Spotify version of Confessions.

Pause on the pictures on this youtube version :dame: But this is the version I had when I first got the album.

Then he released the longer extended version of Confessions with this version.

Just a few subtle changes in the delivery of some words, and changes of adlibs. but it was enough to throw me off for a while.

Toni Braxton was signed to La face not blackground during the late 90s
