Billy King(Nets GM) Interview

Do you ever hear from Jay-Z, who is a minority owner?

A lot of times he’ll shoot me an e-mail with questions. The first time I got an e-mail from him was pretty cool.

What does he typically want to know?

How he can help. When Deron Williams was making his decision, he was struggling for a place to live. Jay-Z goes, “Tell him I’ll call him tomorrow and I’ll help.” It’s a lot about being able to relate to being wealthy, being young, being African-American. He can relate to them where maybe I can’t or Mikhail can’t.

Jiggaman winning :yeshrug:

I'm pretty sure he recouped his investment buy now.
Nah i doubt it. Werent the Nets one of the teams that were losing money last year. According to Stern's number crunchers at least

My brother's keeper
that article is framing it like the Jayz brand is benefiting from it which he is, but what Jay Z is doing for the nets is so much more valuable than what he gets back. He gave the Nets the cred of his brand for marketing for years now when the team was a joke franchise and all he's gettin back is playing boss in a suit and executive producing 2k3? He already had "boss" cred before the nets so that isn't some step like a Young Jeezy landing the title "executive" of A&R
Puff was "executive" A&R in '92

That shyt's about as relevant as all these "label owners" out there now.

He parlayed his success in one industry into a whole other industry and garnered recognition and perks way beyond the value of his investment. I'm not even some huge Jay fan, but it's pointless trying to diminish dude.

So realtor, DJ assistant and security guard...Jay's :eat:

LMAO I can understand the music stuff but why would they listen to Jay-Z on security protocols? Wouldn't they be better off dealing with professionals :russ:

I'm not trying to diminish him, just saying he's getting the shytty end of the deal. He's invested way more than just 250K or whatever, he's using his brand and marketing capital to bring shine to the Nets which they desperately need. That's worth way more than what he's getting in return (a suite, 2k3, etc.) If he was going to be doing all that he should have got more of a piece of the Nets so he'd get a larger return. At least a 5% stake or something.

I say the same thing.. for a guy that supposedly took huge gambles in the crack game eons ago taking more of a gamble with the Nets and investing more should've been a no brainer. They're right in the hub of things in BK/NY now and if the Nets play well and the league continues to grow worldwide, who knows what the profits and returns could look like. and maybe they haven't sold out the luxury suites yet.. I'm sure if a corporation wants that suite and cuts a check for a half a mill then they would take over the suite. Jay could probably buy into the team even more but the price will definitely be at a higher rate.

Suite owners will have access to a Champagne bar serving Armand de Brignac, an expensive bubbly that Mr. Carter promotes and in which he holds a financial interest, according to a biography by a writer for Forbes. The arena will contain a 40/40 Club, an iteration of his sports-bar-style nightclub chain. There will be a Rocawear store, selling his clothing line, on the arena’s exterior. Even the advertising agency used by the Nets, Translation, is half-owned by Mr. Carter.

his small piece is a channel to make money off stuff in which he's heavily invested.

just to be clear, i haven't enjoyed his records since 2001, so i'm not on a crusade

A Buckeye State Of Mind
I thought part of jays deal was he was gonna be the head trainer. Specifically to train d-will. Running through a hot desert should do the trick. Especially when he can only drink water stored in his back:jawalrus::scusthov:
