So, I've re-watched both first seasons of "The Wire" and "Boardwalk Empire."

boardwalk is one of the only shows in my lifetime that i look forward to every time its on. the only other show is the sopranos and the wire. they are very close. if boardwalk can pump out 3 more seasons on the caliber theyre at, itll be >than the wire. and im a wire stan. season 4 is the greatest television on tv but boardwalk has been classic for 2 seasons now. lets not hate

:ehh:

I loved season 1 of the wire

I'm having a lot of trouble getting into season 2 tho

Funny you mention that, I'm watching Season 2 right now. This shyt was really fantastic, it's just the dockworker angle threw people off. I actually thought the Sobotka family was just as interesting as the Barksdales and Stanfield crews.

What's bad about that analogy? They're totally different shows with similarities. Mario on Nintendo to Mario on Wii.

Generation difference, son.

:beli:

Two shows that take place in different eras aren't the same as two video games coming out on systems 20 years apart.

Agreed.

I remember watching it as they aired, and the fears of "whitewashing" and abandonment of the characters you've come to know in the first season didn't allow me to fully enjoy the season.

However, having the luxury of watching episodes back to back coupled with the knowledge that they weren't abandoning storylines allowed me to fully appreciate the greatness of that season.

Regarding this thread, I'm halfway through my re-watch if boardwalk's first season as I get ready for the third season premiere, and I disagree.

The Wire's first season took a while to get up to that "great" level....that's the only thing Boardwalk has over it. Overall The Wire had a better season and is a better series.

I get the video game analogy to a degree, cuz boardwalk being set in the 20s results in a slower pace to the show. I've heard niccas call boardwalk 'boring' and I think that's just because of the pacing.

OP  when he mentioned Boardwalk Empire being set in the 50s

:rudy: So a nikka can't accidentally type 50's instead of 20's? I was watching Judge Mathis and eating a Cheesesteak when i typed the wrong time period:beli:
