So is there a better anime movie than Princess Mononoke?

I know I might get negged for this, but Akira isn't high on the list for me. It's visually gorgeous, but the story is all over the place. The last time I said that to someone they told me to read the manga instead.

Nah, that's a fair opinion. Akira is mostly a classic due to its impressive technical scale. From a story perspective there's a lot you can hold against it.

This isn't really related to the topic at hand but kind of is. I wish they would animate the rest of Shiguri: Death a Frenzy. I read the anime and the story is amazing. I need that shyt animated now.

akira on bluray is fukking :ohlawd: visually

but the story is fukking weird. I still enjoy the story but there isn't any philosophical payoff which imo puts Mononoke above it.

Princess Mononoke says something philosophical about life, and the earth we live on... It's a deeper movie than Akira.

Ghost in The Shell and Macross: DYRL probably get my vote :yeshrug:
I did not get the hype about ghost in the shell, i watched it and was just like :manny: it wasn't bad but it wasn't even close to classics like akira, mononoke, spirited away etc.

Spirited Away imo is the only one that comes close to mononoke

I bought Grave of the Fireflies a few months back but just got around to watching it last night.

:sadbron::sadbron:

Wasn't expecting that. Definitely up there for me.

As for personal favorite, honestly Spirited Away is number one for me. Followed by Howl's Moving Castle

The movie chopped and screwed the manga to hell just to have a story, which is why it's all over the place. The manga is worth the read though, imo. Flows much better than the movie does and makes the movie much more coherent.
