Okay if you want to get technical yes some did love the first season. I belive Sepinwall had it as his #1 of that year.. (as evidenced by one of your links).Review: ‘The Leftovers’ is still TV’s best drama as season 2 begins

Was Season 1 polarizing? Definitely. But plenty of people appreciated it from the very beginning. I don't like to speak for people, but I'm pretty sure @Adam3000 wasn't being literal about it being cool to watch, hence the quotation marks. But he's right, in the midst of season 2, everyone "in the know" was singing the shows praises. To better make my point though, the "cool" show to watch nowadays(which was never polarizing) is Mr. Robot. Compare the ratings of both shows and you'll be surprised.
Though if you wanna get even more technical, let's compare the metacritic scores.
S1: 65
S2:80
S3:98
Those are fukking leaps. And of course everyone was singing s2's praise. It was a flawless and epic season of television. It receive almost quadruple the amount of year end list praise. (8 vs 31)
And actually Mr robot was very polarizing for many in s2. Though oddly enough it got better reviews on the metacritic, but even Esmail himself has mentioned the mixed-negative reaction to season 2 on podcasts on multiple occasions.
This is evident on the lack of year end list love S2 had compared to s1. (5 vs 24)
Did you really use IGN in an argument though breh
