We gotta stop saying this. Trump isn't a symptom of American Idiocracy, he's a by product of it. There were PLENTY of well off, educated and otherwise intelligent people that voted for Trump in 2016 and even in 2020. But because he was legitimized by the Fox News apparatus, enchanting to the lowest common denominator and yet also himself a slave to other oligarchs he is where he is now.
Because he is SO self interested, he's significantly an easier to manipulate (from a geopolitics point of view) than others. Russia is froggy right now precisely because Trump charged Putin up.
