Days of Future Piff
Superstar
I just came back in to say that Krillin is my dawg.
He isn't the strongest Z fighter, but he's still dope to me just because he's the only halfway normal person rolling with the crew.
He's not an alien with crazy powers.
He's not a battle junkie like the rest of the Z fighters.
He's an average dude who just wants to be down for his friends, settle down with a baddie, and enjoy life.
Everyone else is 24/7 while Krillin's the only one who will laugh, cry, freak out, fall in love, and react to things the same way a normal person would.
Krillin has actual friendships and relationships with characters we care about. Goku, Gohan, Roshi, Bulma, 18, etc.
In a story with all kinds of aliens and monsters, you need to have the one character who's grounded, and Krillin is the only human who really fits that role.
Tien has no real relationship with anyone else in the series that we actually care about, since he doesn't have any real personality traits or goals that don't revolve entirely around fighting. Tien is in a fight, but we can't relate to him.
And Yamcha... well he's Yamcha.

On the subject of Tien, he feels like a wasted character these days. He was THAT DUDE in the OG Dragonball, but it feels like Toriyama hasn't known what to do with him since.
He was dope as a rival in the beginning until Piccolo and Vegeta came through and played that role better.
The problem with Tien is that his backstory doesn't do much to expand on the lore like Piccolo and Vegeta.
Piccolo's race made the Dragonballs, which the whole show is all about.
Vegeta is one of the last Saiyans left after Frieza came through and crushed the buildings, so there's a deeper layer to his rivalry with Goku.
Tien... fought Goku in a tournament a couple of times, but that was basically it.
Goku, Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta all grew, matured, got married, and started families.
Piccolo found redemption through his friendship with Gohan, learned about his history and his people, and ultimately merged with Kami again in the end.
Meanwhile, Tien hasn't changed a dot since the King Piccolo Saga ended. It's a shame.
