Low transmission rates and "next to impossible" are not the same thing. In Africa you have far too high a prevalence (10-20% in some countries) and too even a demographic trend (men and women infected in equal numbers) to just claim it's a "gay disease."

But my same argument still holds. Some of the worst countries for AIDS were small landlocked nations, those aren't the sort of places random white people go. You get tourists in South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda......but some of the worst-hit AIDS nations were places that Westerners rarely go.

Also, there was an AIDS epidemic in Kinshasa before AIDS waw ever even identified in the West. They just didn't know why so many usually harmless infections were killing people, it wasn't ID'd as AIDS until the mortality pattern was analyzed and tests were done on samples in retrospect.
