GDs derived from BDs tho...Barksdale had the Devil's Disciples, created the Black Disciples as a grouping of a bunch of Disciple Gangs at the time (random names like renegade disciples, insane disciples etc).
Meanwhile, Hoover was running shyt in the same area of town with the Supreme Gangsters, he clicked up w/ some clicks that all had the word gangster in their name and battled w/ the BDN. This battle wasn't going to be won by either side, so Barksdale and Hoover formed the BGDN...Barksdale died causing some splintering, and the BGDN was never one gang but rather an alliance between the BDs and the then BGDs (which eventually dropped the B to become GDs) and some other smaller mobs too. BGDs and all of Folk Nation repped the 6-point star out of respect for David Barksdale (star of david).
BGDN was created on 68th and Green, in Englewood, if I'm not mistaken.
In 1991 all the Folk and People Nation shyt started to go out the door and in the Taylors BGDs and BDs were fighting hard over control of the buildings and the war got so bloody that BGDs dropped the B from their name to become GDs and BDs started to drop the rakes and only rep the gates.
