So can we agree that Mass Effect 2 was the best in the series?

I want to say Mass Effect 1, but I know that's just nostalgia coming up. The second is when the series still had a shot at ending on a really high note. More or less, it was filler, but it was exceptional filler with very good DLC.

Thoughts?

Two had a lot of moments. Learning about the genophage and deciding the fate of the Krogans. Finding that guy who was being experimented on. There seemed to be a lot more moral questions with no "right" answer.

I was still in school and only had a PS3, so I couldn't get it when it first came out

I love this game, one of the only two games I've beaten 3 times or more this gen. The other one is Bioshock.

But it was lacking in story. You recruited your guys and then it was on to the final mission.

The first Mass Effect will always be my favorite. I didn't cop it when it came out, and only got around to renting it several months (maybe almost a year) after it came out. As soon as I started playing it, I was hooked. I had previously played KOTOR 2 and I liked the combat system, but the story to ME1 is so far ahead of that of ME2 and ME3.

I just felt like I WAS Commander Shepard when I was playing. The mystery and revelations, piece-by-piece. The "Hold The Line" speech at Virmire . The dialogue with Sovereign is the creepiest/coolest gaming moment I can remember.
