punk is not a mainevent material. summer 2011 storyline could happen to any other wrestler. so punks push didn't fukked up, punk and wwe fukked up when decided to push him. his ok wrestler, but his place is in upper-mid card with some main event feuds (like Y2J), but not THE main event

This dude typing this with a John Morrison inspired s/n

So you're saying all the media that he was doing, GQ features that no wrestler had really gotten before, all of that meant nothing? C'mon man...
yes, that's what I'm saying. having a little piece on the bottom of GQ website is not something to get too excited about. Get back to me when he makes the cover and let alone has a spread in the magazine.

He's got an extended run still coming to him at the main-event level but nah, this guy isn't gonna transcend the industry the way real crossover stars do. Frankly he looks too much like a streetperson to ever be larger than life.

They booked him badly after the pipe bomb promo, but even if they had booked him perfectly he's still just never gonna be that true crossover guy. He has a limit as to how far he can go and how many people he can appeal to.

I like Punk. He definitely got screwed over with the HHH/Nash/John/Johnny stuff. He didn't really deliver in promos after his initial "shoot" though so it's partially his fault for hyping himself about revolutionizing the business or whatever and not really delivering on anything.

He's never going to be "the guy". I agree that he's going to be in that Jericho kind of role where he'll float in and out of the main events.

They should have held off his return. Imagine the interim title being held up until the Hell in the Cell PPV. After Cena finally wins the title in Hell in The Cell, C.M. Punk walks out with the real belt and pretty much tells Cena to throw his belt in the bushes. :birdman:

He was never going to be that level of a star. He had to imply he was "shoot" leaving the business for at least a year to to get significant recognition, and even then the highlight of his career is bumping up a B level PPV by 20k buys to 200k overall.

When the smoke cleared he was just a guy that looked like he should working in a shytty bowling alley acting like a Bart Simpson type. The older non-smark fans just look at him as a world champion, laugh, think "I could kick his ass" and change the channel

Some of it is bad booking, but a lot of it is his own fault for not delivering.

You promise change, and a revolution, you'd better back it up. Austin and Rock started their slow rise when the WWE was in the shytter, business wise (96,97), so the company sucking as a whole isn't really a valid excuse either.

I don't think it reflects all that poorly on him. He's still a really successful superstar, just not at that elite level that he wanted to be. No shame in being popular, just not being Hulk/Rock/Austin.

I'll do that when you can name me a guy that even got to Punk's level with that magazine.

Imagine if that nikka stayed away for a year, and returned on some heel shyt?:wow:

shyt would have been :krs: if he returned this year at NOC or something.... have everybody completely forget him....

Hes where he wants to be

I think so. He wanted that fat contract and he got it. I don't think his intent was to ever "make it fun again"

Cosign. He promised all this whimsical shyt and I don't think he was ever planned (from a WWE perspective) to do anything. The HHH/Nash thing is bullshyt and a fukking tragedy though.

Just to point out ... most of y'all saying Punk failed have to compare him to Austin, Rock & Hogan ... the three biggest names in the history of wrestling.

Out of all the main eventers WWE have or attempted to create over the last decade (Batista, Orton, Edge, Lashley, Jeff Hardy), Cena is the only one who has came close to the aforementioned trinity.

That's true. I think it's obvious they're trying to create a megastar to rival Cena, but in the last 20 years, aside from Goldberg, it has always been organic. I think a lot of his stuff seems forced (not always his fault) and it doesn't quite come off right.
