So are Tyler Perry's movies suspect if we know that a majority of his viewers are black?

I've seen about 4.

Seen one where the dad was a gangster in atl, se the one where that rich dude cheated on his wife and the Became paralyzed , seen one with some dude throwing his children out the window.

they all had the same recurring man hating theme. Woman is the victim, lifetime shyt. And his shyt is poorly produced and directed. My opinion, based on what I saw, not from the Coli.
Yeah even though 99% of his cast is black, guess he should hire more cacs to play the bad guy roles

I don't believe in nor do I answer to stereotypes. You never see someone bytching about white stereotypes in a Adam Sandler movie.

It's a double negative. Why do we a demote ourselves to those standards. I like kool-aid, I like chicken, and I like watermelon. Why does it have to be something negative. Because we let white people tell us it is. Through their portrayals of us in the media througout history, they created these so called "stereotypes not us.

Folks claim rap music has a negative impact on the black community. So why wouldn't the negative stereotypes from a movie have a negative impact on the community? You can make the argument that those negative rappers are giving the consumers what they want as well.

You could also argue that what Tyler Perry puts out is worse because it's disguised as something that's exclusive and helpful to that community when in reality he's bringing back old rehashed stereotypes and tropes that have been around for a long time.

SMH... What? I don't post anything BUT my own opinion. I'm not trying to shyt on TP... he makes money, good for him... but let's be honest about what he puts out. If you enjoy his movies good for you. I'm not knocking you... His movies are still shyt. You seem to think because he shows working class black folks in a few of his flicks that THAT'S good enough... but his movies are always based around some moral drama that is supposed to exclusive to the black community and he mixes it in with some preachy christian non sense as if that's the solution to every problem.

I'm not on my toes right now and I'm going off top but.... Well let's see his first flick Diary of A Mad Black Woman. The husband was a bald headed dark skinned dude who cheated/left his wife for a latina. And who was the main characters "hero" love interest? He does stuff like that in ALL of his movies and he tries to play it slick some movies and mix and match it up... like He'll have the light skin guy as the bad guy but then the love interest will be latino or something like that.

Do I even need to explain what Madea is? She's a loud, obnoxious, old black woman... played by a black man. And the movies "she" is in just so happen to be Tyler Perry's most profitable ones.
List every negative stereotype that is portrayed in TP movies.

I'll wait

Every I asked people who bring that shyt up they never give me a answer

Lemme go down the list:

Diary of a Mad Black Woman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dark skinned evil attorney, Shemar Moore as the light skinned savior.

Madea's Family Reunion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Abusive fathers/rapist stepfathers. Rest of men are comedic relief. Madea saves the day.

Daddy's Little Girls - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This one admittedly has a strong, well-written male lead, but besides him, the only black men who are worth shyt are some scared old heads and no others.

Meet the Browns (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Same as the 1st plus kids and the dark skinned villain isn't even given screentime.

I Can Do Bad All by Myself (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Same as 1st, but now the villain is light-skinned and the savior is Latino. Was Perry predicting the rise of wenching??

For Colored Girls - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't get why black men are always, and I mean always presented as some type of boogieman to black women seeking commitment, like we're a whole different race or some shyt. When many of the women are never accountable, have girl mentalities as women, and choose cats like the ones in the movies, its the go ahead to paint all black men as unstable.

I could list more examples, but its obvious enough. The first few plays/movies were funny and the drama could be appreciated, but making dozens and dozens of popular films and raking in millions off of essentially downing black men? Especially painting successful brothas as the most sadistic? As a black man, I can't cosign that shyt no matter how many women fantasize about the situations/Christian aspect.

Or am I wrong about this portrayal?:mjpls:
:camby: you wanna critique Tyler for that shyt but you doing more harm looking at his movies in that point of view.

This is a foolish stance to take. Do you have any idea of the minstrel shows that are a large part of american history? Do you understand the power of propoganda? Do you know about any of the tactics hitler used to exterminate jews in Germany?

Imo Tyler perrys movies/tv shows are modern minstrel shows. It's a tactic for social engineering, to shape the global perception of black people.its interesting that towards the end of minstrel shows, blaxks started accepting the roles, regardless of how demoralizing they were.

Minstrel shows lampooned black people as dim-witted,[1] lazy,[1]buffoonish,[1][2] superstitious, happy-go-lucky,[1] and musical. The minstrel show began with brief burlesques and comic entr'actes in the early 1830s and emerged as a full-fledged form in the next decade. By 1848, blackface minstrel shows were the national artform, translating formal art such as opera into popular terms for a general audience.[3]

Blackface minstrelsy was the first distinctly US theatrical form. In the 1830s and 1840s, it was at the core of the rise of a US music industry, and for several decades it provided the lens through which the white US saw the black US. On the one hand, it had strong racist aspects; on the other, it afforded white Americans a singular and broad awareness of what some whites considered significant aspects of black-American culture to be.[4][5]
