So are Tyler Perry's movies suspect if we know that a majority of his viewers are black?

I mean if this were a bunch of shyt that had a majority white audience, I'd understand the backlash.
But it's usually black people going to his plays and movies so wouldn't that technically mean that's what a particular demographic of black movie goers want?

I used to dislike Tyler Perry but I've come to realize 99% of rappers c00n way more than he does. The characters in his movies/shows/plays might come off as kinda silly but they usually mean well and have morals.

Compare that to rap songs that promote drug dealing, pimping, stealing, and other dishonorable behavior.

A lot of African Americans just hate on him because most of Perry's characters aren't "cool". No other set of people places so much value on being "cool".:snoop:

Mr.Perry is alright in my book.:obama:

In b4 someone posts a pic of him as Madea. :lolbron:

Breh practically every black comedian has worn dresses yet they rarely get flack for it.

(This could be a thread in itself.:russ:...:snoop:)

He's technically not a comedian but he could be considered a comedy writer.

What are you even talking about?
People who hate Tyler Perry don't do so because it isn't "cool"
You even said yourself you didn't like him at first. Was that because it wasn't "cool" enough for you?

I'd rather have tyler perry films over move like the help, precious, the blindside, & the butler that perpetuate the ideas of white supremacy/black inferiority
Funny enough, I just watched the Butler last night and I will have to disagree with you.

You've seen real life instances where the educational board in Texas is trying to tone down racial imagery/supremacy involved with white America during slavery and the civil rights era. Or even now in South Carolina where they are petitioning to bring down a slave memorial. If it were up to certain segments of society, anything to do with injustices against black people in America would be swept under the rug.

These sort of movies I feel are important because they serve as a form of preservation of history. I have said before that 'Glory', despite no getting award recognition, will be a pivotal movie for generations to come. It will serve as an educational resource for kids to understand exactly what it is that African-Americans went through at the time. A book can be visualized, but a movie is more visceral and can evoke different kinds of emotions.
