There's also still the matter of the league trying to roll back the officials' pension. Over the last five years, the league has contributed, on average, about $5.3 million per year to the officials' pension plan. The league, in keeping with the current cost-cutting practice of corporations across America, no longer wants to guarantee how much each official would get in retirement, but rather tie the contributions to a 401(k)-type pension. That would save the league about $3.3 million per year.

NFL is a business based on popularity. People who are not fans are talking NFL right now.

The NFL also knows that the delta in the cheap refs and the real refs isn't that great. They want to break the ref union. That is the NFL's goal. It's not to get the refs back on the field. Goddell is playing chess right now. Unfortunately, the real refs are lawyers, judges, etc. Those dudes aren't dumbasses with money unlike the NFL players who would be broke with 1 missed check. Goddell is NOT backing down to the refs. That would be a horrible precedent.

Officiating is a part time job. Why should they get pensions?

Not to mention that they work 3 hours a week for at the most 25 days a year?

We all want the officials back, but the owners are right

Why do you have this crab in a barrel mentality? Since your employer has fukked you over on your benefits you dont want the next man to keep his benefits? Thats why the working man is losing out in this country. We dont look out for each other at all anymore. Americans receive the worst benefits package and least vacation time in the modern world and our mentality is not to fight for more but to take away the benefits of anyone who is doing better than us.

This shyt is shameful.

I respect the Refs standing up to the NFL. Unfortunately for the rest of us, the decimation of unions have made us mere peasants in the corporate world. That's why they feel they can shaft us out of pensions in exchange for bullshyt schemes like 401Ks.
