I agree that it was used to demean but it's also easier to process on an implicit level. This can be shown in any lab test, the amount it would take the brain to activate and process color vs the multi-level processing needed to distinguish culture.

you're bringing your area of study into this discussion and using it to justify the reason why we use race today subconciously... You're most likely right about it being easier to process... but let's be real it ain't hard to process culture either... it's not a huge leap from processing race, it's not something that would be difficult for our brains to wrap our heads around, if it was we wouldn't have been doing it for 10x longer than using race. The only reason race won over culture is because of the domination of colonial cultures. These people amassed so much wealth in so little time due to slave labor that they called the shots , that's why it won... not because it was easier on the brain.
I just feel like with culture someone would have to tell you versus looking at someone and being more accurate about their race. The flipside is that culture tells you more information than race so it's more useful which is why it is harder to process.

i think the only reason color is easier to process is because it's way more basic.. .u can lump two groups of people who came up way different at different times in different environments all based off color... but they can have nothing in common besides color and very very very distant ancestry... they could actually have more in common with people with black(er) skin
