Her mother was born on a plantation in the 1800s. Her mother (my great-great grandmother) was a slave.

When you put it like that, that's not that long ago. My grandmother's grandmother. The grandmother that I grew up with every single day, going over her house.....her grandmother was a slave.

Same here. My great grandfather was born in 1900...I knew him. His grandparents would have been slaves in Richmond VA

And family was a lot closer back then.. They probably helped raised him
