Skyzoo said he wanted to make this his version of what he felt LA felt to him.....he didn't want to rap about being in a low rider or rapping over Rodger Troutman samples he felt that would've came off a biting LA's culture.
I do wish the production on this album was stronger though, the my first time hearing The Other Guys
Which is fine but there's a lot more to LA than just Electrofunk or Low riders.
There's a long history of R&B, Soul, Cool Jazz, Funk, Electro-funk, Hip-Hop etc.
that's related to Southern California. So many recording studios and labels were in the Los Angeles
area.
Which to me is a disservice to a themed album about Los Angeles, the show does
a really good job of this and is scored very well because of it.
In the end, it just comes off as another Skyzoo project only instead of it being self referential
it's "from the perspective of franklin saint" which to me feels like a retread of previous ideas
(rapping from the perspective of characters from the wire).
The lyrics have been top tier so far though but the production leaves much to
be desired especially after the last four projects or so.
