There used to be loads of unsigned/no name artists and bands that flipped rap tracks into R&B joints back in the early 00s.

One was called Dangerous and featured a male trio over Shynes Bad Boy Anthem beat that really knocked. Anyone ever heard that one? It got quite a reaction when spun. Another was a female group over Im A Hustla, an RnB remix of Lean Back, loads of In Da Clubs and a few Roc-A-Fella tracks from the sped up sample era with singers and new lyrics. Some bought back 90s DR jams with a vocalist over G Thang and Big Poppa as well as some Snoop tracks.

Never seen them online as they were always white label promos for the clubs back when. Not blends but actual fresh cuts with new vocals over a jacked beat that was sometimes tweaked a bit with a mild mix and knocking kicks for the club. In Essence set off this wave with this banger:

@jensyao @Howard The Duck any of this sound familiar?

I don't think I've heard these. I'd like to...

I can't remember ever seeing them online as it was pre-digital. A lot of them were pressed straight to white label promo which is why I can't recall the artists or titles plus it was crazy days with crazier nights.

Maybe searching for the track plus "R&B Version/Reply" may help find them? Found a few more:

This is a dope channel:

The cat is def of the era and span the same tunes. A lot of those 12s back when came with alt mixes and there were so many unreleased yet officially pressed CDs as well as they'd lace us trying to get them popping on the underground first.

Let me know if you find some of these tunes as HQ as its been a minute.

HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT DARNELL'S 'WHOA'????

he was in Germany doing that and that was my man. He used to perform every Sunday at the Park Cafe. He'd put me on his guest list. My girl at the time even went to his video shoot for it. I still have the flier in my flier book when they were promoting the video shoot.

My mixtapes were things of legend back when as I had the joints no one else did. See if you can reach out to him and bring him to the Coli as I'm sure he'd enjoy the environment and has a story to tell.

Can anyone remember a track that used the J-Kwon Tipsy beat but redone with a R&B singer plus new hook? That one got crazy, crazy spins as it was bumping. Def had remixed production as they'd flipped it quite a bit. This one had a new title and concept as well so it makes finding it online that much harder as it wasn't called Tipsy. Same with the Im A Hustler one I mentioned previously and the one that jacked Bad Boy Anthem, G Thang etc... as they were complete new songs in the vein of the In Essence jam linked.

There was a period between 02 and and 06 where this lane was super busy because the moment you'd get a new release it would be followed up by a R&B remix within days. The amount of tracks over Grindin (not including the one linked) was crazy as were the beats from Documentary as singers were just going ham with direct to the set exclusives.

Also, to flip it one time real quick:

When rappers jack R&B jams and make it their own track.
