:gucci: That's literally the point of the article. They marry in just fine, in fact, they're encouraged to. It's the politics part where they fukk it up for the monoracials.
first off i'm high
second, my point was that it doesn't get to that point because generally they will assimilate into white or black

:lolbron: It's ok, enjoy your Saturday.

Under normal US circumstances you'd probably be right. We've assimilated many waves of immigrants. The problem now is, they're coming faster than we can assimilate them. Use language as your indicator for assimilation and you'll find that, back in the day, ppl learned English pretty fast just bc they had to. During that process, they got culturally assimilated too. That process is no longer happening. People can live here 20 yrs and never get fluent in the language or the culture. They're active in their communities and spreading that poison to all the kids born here.

It's not good for us. :francis:

IDK..when you look at Mexican Americans that have been here for generations they don't speak Spanish...its just usually just the first and second generations that speak their mother languages

lookat Nuyoricans..most of them can't speak a lick of Spanish

Both examples of ppl who came here back when you still HAD to assimilate.

Just like biracials used to be black under the old rules and now its up in the air. We're moving into a new era. To win, to plan, to know how to move, we have to be honest about the new rules.

@Nicole0416, Your thoughts on this topic? :jbhmm:

The part relevant to AA's and the linchpin of why a lot of are are deciding we don't want them here. ^^^ They seek out the opportunities we died for in a country that "enables groups to make demands on society" while simultaneously playing the "it [is] socially disreputable to raise demands for reform" game. They trynna have it both ways.
Dap + rep, this article explained the :mjpls: shyt I had been feeling.

One of my Masonic brothers was born in Trinidad and Tobago and says I have a chip on my shoulder because I always call out racism. I told him that if African Americans weren’t calling out racism here in the US his Dad wouldn’t have had a place to run to when it was getting too hot in Trinidad. He had nothing to say...

lots of Caribbeans came to the US in the early 1900s. Many lived in Harlem
Early 1900's, when?

If they lived in Harlem, they were already benefiting from AA's Great Migration opening the neighborhood to them. Also, FYI, the Civil Rights Movement didn't start in the 60's. There was a rolling start after WWI that increased after WWII and culminated in the CRM.

Idk if I can get any more specific than that. People from the Caribbean dans haiti/Dr had European passports and began migrating to the US in the early 1900s

you realize harlem became black because the white flight and the government pushing black people to upper Manhattan. I'm not sure you can say that's a benefit for a group of people from a place where legal segregation didn't exist

Some links:

:heh: Irrelevant. You come here, you deal with the rules. Point is, there was a neighborhood in Manhattan where they were legally allowed to live bc of AA's. .

That wiki link is about NYC in general. By the time I was coming up, there weren't enough WI's in Harlem to notice. Ex/ when Shabba came out, nobody knew wtf it was and ppl were asking if you know how to 'dance Jamaican'. :mjlol: Clearly not a lot of WI influence.

i always thought Latin Americans and North Africans had similar phenotypes and analogous histories (rampant white and African mixing)

Latin America is damn near an extension of the mediterranean area, due to Portuguese and Spanish conquests, as well as French ones in the Caribbean. All three countries obviously heavily influenced by Arab culture/language. Also lots of Lebanese moved there later on (and Syrians too I think)
