Doc was really well done. Did a nice job of showing his life from start to where it is now. Glad he’s been able to make a good living with speaking engagements, training camps and even Big 3.

Crazy how his biological father’s identity was never really disclosed anywhere, and his mom was practically terrified of telling them. Is that really still a secret to this day?? Sounded like it was some rich white politician or bigwig in MS.

Did this ruin Bernie Bickerstaff’s rep with the people at all?

shyt sucks.

Watched the documentary today, it was great and well put together. I remember being a pre-teen and watching him. His crossover and shot was deadly.
The only thing I disagreed with was giving that interview with HBO after 9/11, especially when he was trying to get back into the league. But seeing how that played out with him in the 90s and how it played out with KAP.

That wasn't the reason he was ousted from the league though. He wasn't the first or last Muslim - Deke, Dream used to do it...a year later, Reef did as well. He started pissing off teammates (and coaches) a couple of years before that, and he was really traded because he started to beef with Robert Pack. The team ran better with Pack at the helm. Once you get labelled a headcase, it's hard to get rid of. Part of it was that he wasn't really a PG, wasn't big enough to play SG, and his style of play back then clashed with the way the game was played. Then it was rumored he wouldn't come off the bench.

He wasn't even protesting anything in particular at that time, it was just that being a Muslim his belief was to not participate in the anthem. Hell, going to school with Muslims back then, we all knew that.
