Since the original story is African, I'm still trying to figure out what the real significance of an African priestess being raped by the sea and thus losing the patronage of wisdom really means, symbolically.
Her son is a horse, another symbol of the sea, and is used to not only tear down a sea creature to rescue an African princess -- but is also used to wage a battle of supremacy against the sun itself. What was the original story, and what did the Greeks distort in the retelling?
