And before then, the only other player that had been drafted in the First Round of the draft that came from the G-League was PJ Hairston back in 2014. Mind you, we're talking about a developmental league that's been in establishment for over 20 years and the G-League since 2017. There's only been like 6 players drafted overall from the G-League.

The G-League Unite team is nothing more than the NBA admitting that their developmental system has been a failure thus far and now poaching prospects from the NCAA. Sound familiar?

Green and Kuminga were going to get drafted as lottery picks regardless of whether they went to the NCAA or G-League. Yet who gets the credit for it?

Breh, they just allowed high school kids to jump to the G-league like a year ago. The sample size is way too small to even make this comparison. And they only allowed that after seeing more kids start picking the option of playing overseas to get paid instead of spending one year in college. Plus now, the NCAA can pay their student athletes so who knows if kids will pick going to the G-league over college/international now.

You don't have to be a high school kid to get drafted out of the developmental league :mjlol:

Y'all are proving my point without even realizing it.........

C'mon, breh. You know the top NBA caliber talent are either one and done in college or one and done in international ball. I agree with you that the G-league seems like a waste of time & resources, but the ability for them to let kids jump from high school to the G-league is still a fresh concept that cannot be judged yet. If Jalen Green & Kuminga play well from the start, that's a great look for the G-League to attract other top high school stars. If they both flop, then that's a different story.

That doesn't change the fact that the NBA's Developmental has been a failure at creating stars, which is the purpose of what it was created for in the first place. You have a problem if you can't develop talent using those resources and have now resorted to poaching talent from the NCAA. Even those foreign players would rather stay overseas than utilize the resources of the developmental league.

Let's not sit here and pretend like those guys in the G-League don't have access to NBA level training staffs and resources, yet they have still failed to create any stars via that route. The only reason those guys even went the G-League is because they bumped the pay for top prospects. If the NIL was out last year, those guys would have cashed in and went the college route instead.

I'm not even trying to talk bad about the NBA, but more so speaking about how college kids have preferred the training and development from the college game compared to the developmental league of the NBA. That's even before college kids could even get paid they still wanted no part of the league's developmental resource system.

I agree, but I don't think the NBA is a sport that's meant for honing your skills in a development league like say baseball. By the time you're 19-20, the league has a good sense whether you either have it or you don't. There's always the rare cases of guys like Jermaine O'Neal or Jimmy Butler who develop slowly into superstars, but it only happens once in a blue moon. Wrestling is different. I've made an entire thread of why I think WWE developmental fukking sucks, so I won't get into it again here but I think we're agreeing with each other to some extent :heh:

I was more so bringing up the comparison for the G-League poaching top NCAA talent and WWE poaching top Indie talent to overcompensate for the fact that their developmental systems have largely been a failure. So yes we're both in agreement.

They're starting to poach players from the NCAA.

I think that's why the ignite team was created, as you alluded to.
Yeah, I think the G-League Ignite is primarily motivated by players going overseas moreso than feeling like NCAA can't develop stars.

Which is proving my entire point that they're having to poach players from the NCAA just as WWE is doing for the indies as their developmental system has been a failure thus far. Those G-League teams are supposed to have better access to resources for better development than the college game, yet it hasn't actually created any stars.
I think you and I disagree with what the purpose of the G-League is. I don't think it exists to create stars.

Exactly. The NBA values upside to a crazy extent. Doesn't make sense to expect any of these people (pre G-League Ignite) to be stars when the majority weren't good enough to be drafted in the first place.

The Indie guys NXT is signing are much further ahead in their careers than the average G Leauge player.

If that’s the logic you want to by, then that defeats the entire purpose of having the G-League and developmental system in the first place now does it? You’re still proving my point without even realizing it.

No company out here is trying to waste money and resources just to get dudes that can ride the bench and barely contribute. If that was the case, then the teams could have those players on the bench themselves and there’d be no need for the G-League in the first place :skip:

Not sure if it's mentioned, but is it more of a question of "can they" rather than "should they". Raw and Smackdown each have contracts with competitive networks.

I agree they should end the split. I really hope they finally give some of their PC roster some shine.

I agree with both of you all on the NBA stuff so don’t. want to get sidetracked.

Development has sucked for the men but they’ve made legit stars with the woman. Bianca + 4 horsewoman are as big as they’ve had since Trish/Lita/Chyna.

But then the many failures :mjlol:

Did they just luck into the Horsewomen like they did with the OVW class with Lesnar, Orton and Cena though? They haven't really pumped out any women since then with Bianca being the only exception.

No, they couldn't. There are roster limits. The majority of the guys in the g-league aren't good enough to be on an NBA roster. But I feel like we've derailed the thread enough with the NBA talk.

I don't think ending the brand split just to end it is a good idea. They need to have clearly articulated goals and reasons otherwise it's going to be a dude.

Only problem is that some of those women technically aren’t/weren’t WWE creations as they were signed to developmental from the Indie circuit :ld:

I never meant to derail the thread. I more so brought up the NBA to mention the fact of how a lot of these sports leagues (WWE wants to be considered a sport) developmental systems are complete ass. They’d rather fasttrack and get someone tailor made than property develop and create a star. That’s exactly what’s going on in NXT when they ran out of tailor made Indie stars.

I mean all those people could have went to other companies. The Horsewoman have been wrestling since the late 2000s, TNA had a decent woman's division then, they decided to go to WWE. Luck or not they had to develop there. I mean technically off my initial list really only Bianca and Charlotte are "homegrown" but when has WWE in it's history ever built stars from their own camp from the ground up? It's few and far between except the one's we both mentioned.

Nah, you good. I was talking about me getting sidetracked, speak on whatever you want breh. But yeah I agree they got complacent with developmental because they were signing guys like Nakamura, Steen, Generico, PAC, and Prince. These guys probably just needed to learn which way to look at the camera from Vince's standards or some shyt but otherwise were already top tier vets.

HHH is to blame for trying to take over the indies but Vince put him in that position because they were hoarding talent so they wouldn't sign anywhere.

Now that there's an alternative they do need to start from scratch but not from ground zero because they've had success in the past.
