nah i'm not seeing the fall guy angle. they are trying to bury dude. if your guy is gonna be a fall guy you'll be saying stuff like "yeah what he did was wrong, but he's a good person, just has addiction issues and i want things to work out for him." instead they're like "y'all better fukk him up." go too hard and he might rethink the whole thing.

From a reddit thread of the direct translation of Ohtani's presser and it all makes sense. Basically Ippei lied and lied and lied. Mislead Ohtani and his team.

To go back to where this all started, last weekend—this was in Korea—there was an inquiry from the press to my agent about the possibility of me being involved with an illegal bookmaker. Ippei-san never told me that there was such an inquiry and I was never informed by anyone about this. What [Ippei] told my agent was that he talked to me and I had said that the money was to pay off a different friend’s debt, not Ippei-san’s.

The next day, after further questioning, Ippei-san admitted to my agent that the debt was in fact his. Apparently, he told my agent at that point that I had agreed to pay his debts for him.

But this was, as it turned out, all completely false.

Ippei-san had definitely never told me anything about being contacted by a reporter and he had misled my agent into believing that we had talked and that I was fully aware of the situation. He had also misled the Dodgers into believing I was informed.
So I'm supposed to believe that Ippei is not the only person around Ohtani with debts, but there is ANOTHER PERSON around Ohtani that he is just cool paying off their debts, and that is the person Ippei told Ohtani agent about, so Ohtani agent wouldn't know it was Ippei paying off his debts with Ohtani money, but A WHOLE OTHER UNNAMED PERSON who was getting their debts paid off by Ohtani :mjlol:

Mans listened to the answer in English and responded in Japanese :mjlol:

I'm guessing you've never learned a 2nd language if you think that is weird. It's normal as hell for people who speak multiple languages - it's a lot easier to understand another language than it is to translate your response in a grammatically correct way.

Ohtani is no different than plenty of other guys who "could" speak in English, but still feel more comfortable and relaxed speaking in their native language for now.

Sounds like dude had the power of attorney and ran up crazy bills and used Ohtanis money to float the cash. Crazy but I actually believe Ohtani. This dude was living cheap as hell in Japan.

Ippei Mizuhara, the former translator for Shohei Ohtani who was fired late last month amid allegations he stole millions of dollars from the baseball star’s bank account to cover debts that Mizuhara owed to an illegal bookmaker, is in negotiations to plead guilty to federal crimes in connection with the purported theft, according to three people briefed on the matter.
The investigation, which began about three weeks ago after news of the alleged theft broke while Ohtani’s team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, was opening its season with two games in South Korea, is rapidly nearing a conclusion, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the inquiry is continuing.

A guilty plea from Mizuhara before a federal judge — likely to include an admission of a range of facts related to any illegal conduct — could confirm the account that Ohtani gave to reporters two weeks ago, in which he said he had no knowledge of what happened to the money.

Those briefed on the matter claim that prosecutors have uncovered evidence that Mizuhara may have stolen more money from Ohtani than the $4.5 million he was initially accused of pilfering, the people said. In particular, the authorities think they have evidence that Mizuhara was able to change the settings on Ohtani’s bank account so Ohtani would not receive alerts and confirmations about transactions, the three people said
