Making a wire is insanely easy especially when you have access to their finances. shyt I wired that much for my house and it was almost like there should be more guardrails in place. I know a lot of people that work in banks and some of them special in wires of hundreds of millions, and things do go wrong even at those large amounts.

From a reddit thread of the direct translation of Ohtani's presser and it all makes sense. Basically Ippei lied and lied and lied. Mislead Ohtani and his team.

To go back to where this all started, last weekend—this was in Korea—there was an inquiry from the press to my agent about the possibility of me being involved with an illegal bookmaker. Ippei-san never told me that there was such an inquiry and I was never informed by anyone about this. What [Ippei] told my agent was that he talked to me and I had said that the money was to pay off a different friend’s debt, not Ippei-san’s.

The next day, after further questioning, Ippei-san admitted to my agent that the debt was in fact his. Apparently, he told my agent at that point that I had agreed to pay his debts for him.

But this was, as it turned out, all completely false.

Ippei-san had definitely never told me anything about being contacted by a reporter and he had misled my agent into believing that we had talked and that I was fully aware of the situation. He had also misled the Dodgers into believing I was informed.
