Honestly I can't imagine they hold up that well.

Shenmue at the time was incredible. There was nothing else like it. This was a pre GTA 3 world. But I can't see how it would hold up personally.

Still,I'll probably cop the remastered ones.

If you do the math. The budget for Shenmue III is adding up lowkey towards mid to high tier AAA level development. :ld:

Let's look at all parties involved. Kickstarter raised about 8 million alone. Since Deep Silver got involved with support, the game has gotten another delay which means more money poured into the budget. Yu Suzuki has hired the same company who did Uncharted to help with the character models.

You add in additional funding from Sony and possibly Sega on the DL and it's feasible to say Shenmue III is being developed on about a 25-30 million dollar budget :gladbron:

To put that into perspective, on average the Yakuza games receive about a 20 million dollar budget per game and you see what kinda fire Sega dropped with that.

Honestly just knowing that Yu Suzuki can develop this game at his own pace and not be restricted by budget concerns has me thinking that Shenmue III is going to shut a lot of haters up. Even though we got a few progress trailers, we still don't really know wtf is gonna happen in Shenmue III or how it plays. We really aint seen shyt yet. We don't even know what Lan Di looks like in PS4 graphics yet.

The truth is that none of us have actually seen real time gameplay footage yet. :lupe:

Recently the VA for Ryo had this to say about the game and it legit has me in chills

"The hardware has since evolved, and now witnessing the improved quality of Shenmue, I get goose bumps all over again thinking if this is what Yu-san had seen all along."

Shenmue III gonna be legit brehs. We almost to the finish line :mjcry:

Shenmue was innovative for its time, the window has closed for Shenmue 3 to be great. The desire for this is driven by nostalgia and I think this game will be poorly received, mark this post.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 comes out a week after the HD releases of Shenmue 1 and 2 comes out.
We'll see if the nostalgia of Shenmue really holds up against a polished remaster like Kiwami.
I still say Yakuza is everything Shenmue wanted to be, and Shenmue, despite being a childhood favorite of mine, has missed its time. I just wish the combat in Yakuza was as deep as Shenmue.

A remake of shenmue 1 and 2 would have ruffled some feathers...but just a HD release of 1 and 2.. nahhhh

They missed a big opportunity with this one, granted I don't know if sega wants to sink cash into shenmue now when yakuza is doing so well for them.

New screenshot

Shenmue III Steam page is up, and it has a new screenshot!

Shenmue III is seemingly still on track for a August 27, 2019 release date, and leading up to the big day we now have a Steam page up for the PC release of the game. Little new information is revealed, however there is a new screenshot of Ryo playing mini-games that looks quite nice. In the background is seen Excite QTE 3, and Ryo is playing QTE Title.

Also there is a seemingly new image of Ryo and Shenhua (seen above) which looks much improved over the original image (seen below).

Shenmue I & II releases in Japan, selling over 30k units its debut week

If you guys didn’t know, we actually got Shenmue I & II early in the West. Some folks say we got it early to bug test it for its Japanese release, who knows. What we do know is that Shenmue I & II hit Japanese store shelves on November 22, 2018 and charted number for on the Japanese Media Create charts. The top spot was given to Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee! (which seems to track both games as one) but the impressive debut this week came from EA’s Battlefield V which garnered 110,653 sales in its debut week, really making Shenmue I & II’s 37,529 units seem rather weak. But at the end of the day, Shenmue I & II is a port and Battlefield V is a brand new game, so comparing them sales wise is useless.

You can check the full media create chart on Gematsu or after the break:

  • [NSW] Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Let’s Go, Eevee! (Bundle Editions Included) (Nintendo, 11/16/18) – 162,467 (823,707)

The Shenmue III Kickstarter has sent out its 96th update, this time discussing the English voice overs that the game will receive. As we already know, Corey Marshall is reprising his role as Ryo Hazuki while Ling Shenhua will be played by new comer Brianna Knickerbocker who is said to have stunned people with her great performance.

We also got a behind the scenes video with the voice actors, Yu Suzuki and sound director Takayuki Nakamura in the LA studio. My main issue is how odd the audio is synced and how there is little to no information in this video. Which has been a common theme with these updates. Also seems like so few people to voice a game like Shenmue III, we even have Katana, Corey Marshall’s daughter making her voice performance debut. Should be a interesting product when Shenmue III releases later this year.
