People engage in ridiculous fear mongering based on the most unlikely events. Same people who mocked the 1% chance of dying from Covid get sweaty palms at the 0.0000001% chance of getting eaten by a shark. Even in the midst of the worst shark attack runs possible, you're way more likely to die in a car accident on the way to the beach than to have a shark attack happen on the beach.

Nah, but not out of a rational fear, just cause I know I'd be stressing the thought the whole time and wouldn't have any fun.

But it wouldn't keep me from swimming anywhere else, even places I knew had just as many sharks. Posters here talking how they'll never go in a water body other than a pool, I don't know how they ever get into a car, living life that scary.

Hell, way more Black boys die of drowning in pools cause they don't know how to swim than die of shark attacks. You wanna talk about safety, getting greater swimming awareness and lessons in the black community is way more important.

Cut your mic off sir

You can't parse the difference between "I ain't going to that particular Egyptian beach that I've never been to before" and "I ain't ever gonna swim, ever"?

There are shark attacks all the time at Monterey Bay and yet I've gone there multiple times and would do it again. Even in one of the exact beaches that's had multiple attacks. Do you avoid driving on roads that have had car accidents? Do you avoid visiting places where lightning has stuck? Are you scared of visiting hoods where people have been shot?

Parse this

If you went to a beach and there was a sign up that said sharks would you swim in 50 ft of water if it wasn't sectioned off to separate the horrors of the deep from a vetted wading area.

I already have. :heh:

Try and pick a spot in America with more shark attacks in the 21st century than Monterey Bay. There ain't many. And yet thousands of kids and grandmas go in there every day.

Do your hands get clammy and sweaty when you see a sign that says you're driving in a high accident zone?

Poor analogy.

I can see what's ahead of me and I'm driving a tank

Vs swimming in an abyss where you're hoping something below doesn't decide to use you as a free sample while being completely defenseless to stop it.

Just say you're humble bragging about not being afraid to risk your life swimming in deep water. Wear that jacket. You're a brave man. Bravery requires a pinch of dumb because it ignores self preservation
