In 1994 DJ Battlecat became the in house producer for the short lived Lifestyles Records founded by Harry O & his wife Lydia Harris one of Death Rows original partners. During 94 & 95 Battlecat produced 3 projects for the label. The first was Tales From Da Blak Side by Blak Czer which Battlecat did all the beats for except one. Interestingly enough Death Row super lawyer David Kenner is listed as one of the albums executive producers.
The second album he produced for Lifestyles Records was Rollin Wit Dana Dane by the legendary Dana Dane a one time member of Slick Ricks Kangol Crew. Battlecat produced 9 of the 13 tracks.
The last album he recorded for Lifestyles Records was Gumbo Roots, his debut album that Warner Bros (the distributor for Lifestyles Records) shelved. It was released years later overseas. Heres the limited edition version which includes the original 15 track 1995 album along with 3 bonus tracks including an unreleased track from Snoops Blue Carpet Treatment entitled Steppin Over Dogg shyt.
B.O.X. who would later form the group 3re Tha Hardway was around during the beginning of Death Row and was affiliated with one of Suges first artists Chocolate (the dude who wrote Ice Ice Baby) This is his first album, Battlecat produced half of it.
