So. Cal
Bruh was on TNT just now talking about his "new dance" called the Gorilla Dab, when outta the blue he started talking about how every time he visits a zoo, no matter which zoo,

the gorillas run up to the glass and look at him like "where's your fur", and, "why are you on that side of the glass?"
:snoop:

All I could do was cringe. Especially knowing that white America was watching and getting all of their jokes and stereotypes "validated"(so they think) right before their eyes.

And he was telling it to Ernie, the only white guy on the panel. And to Ernie's credit he looked extremely uncomfortable the entire time as well.

I don't think bruh meant to c00n it up or nothing, but damn.. you gotta know when to pump the brakes Shaq :dahell:

Here's the dance he was talking about

EDIT: here it is :snoop:
@bmack21 :salute:

:russ: and:what: at the same damn time

So are we never allowed to refer to ourselves or joke about gorilla's? I understand the monkey thing and all that. I also understand shucking and jiving.

Like is this c00ning?

What about the rapper gorilla zoe, what about 50 and them wanting to be silver back gorillas

It's all about context breh. In the right context, none of it may be c00ning, even with monkeys.

But in front of a white man on the set, AND in front of white America, basing your entire organization off of acting like gorillas; that's not healthy/conducive context..
It's not rocket science :snoop:

APA

P in Phi in Greek

sound it out

APE

1906 was before King Kong and that stereotype was invented

:stopitslime:
Alpha Phi Alpha

Sounded out does not equate to APE to my ears...

The "stereotype" that black people are sub human apes didn't start with the creation of the movie King Kong you dumb ass millenial.

Bottom line is its 2016 and every party flyer you'll see for the Alphas has a Gorilla on it yet it's supposed to be SOOOOOOO bad for a black man to be associated with a Gorilla.

My point is we don't really care about every stereotype. We just want non blacks to never use any stereotype for us out of respect.

It's the same there is no context to it...
White people can hear 50 cent, more whites buy his music than blacks.

White people can see that album cover.

We don't really care about being thought of as a big bad mothafukkin gorilla King Of The Jungle as long as WE say it.

I'm not a Historian I'm just not a dumbass like you. If you have any elders around they will confirm what I'm about to tell you.

"THEY ALWAYS HAVE SAID THIS!"

This whole “simian” thing has roots as old as the creation of race itself. The notion of blacks as apelike “began with the first European contact with Africans,” Phillip Atiba Goff, a UCLA psychologist who has studied the topic, says.
