I don't know if Penny would've ever lead the league in scoring though. He wasn't as aggressive on the offensive end. He was a let the game come to him type, and not a I'm taking this, so get out my way.

With that said, he was already slowing in year 4, and he should've never been an allstar year 5

We never got the chance to see breh hit that next gear, which is scary. Injuries are a bytch

Truth bro. Some of these guys are going off YT highlights & weren't old enough or even born back then. Penny was a MONSTER & was scary good. His IQ & playing making were off the charts; and he could score all over your best defender. The Magic Johnson comparisons were rampant back then but his offensive game was already insane

Is this based on some known knock on Penny's work ethic, or just a random baseless claim? I've always heard that Penny had a fantastic work ethic. You don't build that level of skill by age 21 unless you are working constantly on your game. And there were all sorts of stories about how he worked coming up from poverty, getting shot, going from not even being academically eligible due to his shytty educational upbringing to graduating with a 3.4 GPA, etc.

At just 23 years old Penny made 1st-team All-NBA and took his team to the Finals where he averaged 26-5-8 on 50/46/91 shooting splits. That wasn't from any sort of pure athleticism or just inborn skill - he worked very hard to get there.

How do you know he wouldn't have continued working hard and improving his game if he hadn't gotten hurt? I mean even the way he came back from 5 knee surgeries to last 14 years in the league is evidence of a strong work ethic.
This, Penny Hardaway showed some stuff when they let him shoot against Miami

the ether
This penny should some stuff when they let him shoot against Miami

Yep, he balled out in that series with no help whatsoever. Folk who think that Penny's low scoring totals were from a lack of ability and not a different role should take a look at that one. And he was just a 4th-year player who had already had one knee surgery at that point.

:patrice:

Shaq is one precarious dude. The stuff this dude be saying sometimes is just:snoop:

I know Penny was a more efficient player...definitely a better playmaker. I could see how he was probably more fun for Shaq to play with. But to say he was “just as good”:why:

Penny was never as dominant as Kobe was. At his peak he was a 21/8/7 guy

At Kobe’s peak he was a 30/5/6 guy

That’s a big difference. Don’t get Shaq sometimes...

No…..

And he was:yeshrug:
