Penny's first 3 years or so he was clearly better than Kobe in his. But I don't see Penny rising to a Top 10er healthy or not.
He was also already 22 while Kobe was 18. Compare them at the same age and it's not close.

And the funny thing is Shaq was even wrong in this video. They reached the finals in Penny's second year not his first.

Idk about being as good. But Shaq is right about one thing. It took Kobe time to ramp up since he came straight outta high school. And than it took longer for him to be a team player. Penny damn near right out the gate was him. 1st team All NBA his 2nd year, 3rd in MVP voting in his 3rd year. 20-8 record without Shaq in 96.

But I don’t think he’d of been as good. Kobe at 22 in the playoffs at 01 was already as good if not better than Penny at 24-25 imo. And that wasn’t even his peak. Kobe’s one of the best offensive players of all time and only a few top his longevity.

Its not that far fetched & neither is saying Grant Hill would've been all time great status if not for his ankle :manny:
To say anybody would be top 10 is far fetched. It takes a lot more than raw talent. It takes work ethic, luck to get into the right team situations and health of course. So yeah to say anybody would've been a top 10 of all time is far fetched. Penny and Grant no doubt would've been great players but there's a large gap between being great and one of the GOATs.

I think they both probably would have been ranked pretty high all-time at their positions.

I thought Hill was better than Penny. He did have more healthy years, he had 6 years before the ankle injuries while Penny had 4 years.

Hill’s speed and explosiveness for a 6’8 guy was stunning. People compared him to MJ early on, but he was more Pippen with more scoring (and less defense).

He made an All-Star game in Orlando after all the injuries (and almost dying). Players were talking about how he was still so fast despite being in his 30s and having suffered those injuries.

That’s another thing that was impressive about Penny. He got fukking shot in the foot in a robbery before he went to Memphis. He wasn’t able to overcome the knee injuries but he did make a great comeback from getting shot.

Shaq facts aren't even correct. He said they made the Finals Pennys first year.

Pretty sure penny came in 93-94 season, Orlando did not make the Finals that year. It was the following 94-95 season bc they beat the Bulls
