I agree. Also, I think that (not to be fukked up/twisted) it may also allow the awards to change hands quite a bit since u gotta damn near be an iron man to be eligible now. Everyone can't do that shyt, let alone consistently

That’s a good rule. JJJ might be getting the DPOY award but how many games has he played?
Bra, why my nerd ass thought you were talking about J Jonah Jameson smh

70-72 seems like a good number. In the past 30 years, only Allen Iverson won MVP playing less than 72 games (he played 71). The other players who played less were because of lockout seasons (LeBron and Malone) and COVID season (Giannis).

Bill Walton played the fewest number of games of an MVP in an 82 game season (58). Then you have to go back to Cousy and Russell who won MVP playing 60+ games.

I thought there was already a minimum for awards and "leader" titles.

I thought this was already the case? Have there been players winning major awards while only playing in a handful of games?

There is a minimum of something like 58 games for the "stat" awards, which is why LeBron wasn't eligible for the scoring title last year having only played in 56 games.

But there's no official number for the voted awards, it's basically just up to the voters whether they'll disqualify someone for not playing enough games. Gobert won DPOY in 2018 after only playing 56 games. I randomly was surprised seeing recently that Dennis Rodman only played 49 games in 1995 and still got voted 3rd-team All-NBA. Pippen made All-NBA in 1998 playing in just 44 games.

Lowest # of games for an MVP appears to be Bill Walton in 1978, only playing 58 games, which I think was a little bit of a combined award that voters were giving him credit for his 2nd half of 1977 performance too and feeling like he had played like an MVP for over a year even if he wasn't able to finish up that particular season.

Probably the worst ever if we're going for any award is Zion, who was named to the All-Rookie team despite playing in just 24 games.

There should be either a minimum games or a player has to hit a certain total to be eligible. Let’s say a player only plays 55 games, but they scored over 2000pts. They absolutely should win the scoring title.

Since there are pay increases tied to All-NBA I recommend they add minimum games to those spots as well. No super-max if you aren’t playing enough.

^Yea this was my first thought; the mvp trophy is fine i guess but imo wouldn't really impact much unless you put the minimum requirement at 70 or something.

The typical 3-4 players who are in realistic conversation for MVP are going to give you 60'ish games anyway, to sustain their "narrative" case for it. Hell, 58 is the minimum to qualify for the scoring title.

Now if you include the All-NBA teams etc,, then yea even a low 60s cut-off might offer greater incentive. Booker, AD, KD, Curry, Kawhi, and likely Lebron, etc., would all be disqualified this year if that were the case.

Not that any of them but probably Booker would care at this stage of their careers. But it'd definitely give greater incentive for the young guys or those typically on the outside looking in to have added motivation.

About time. I said this in other threads. 70 Games (85%), but I can see 68 being a grace number.

Next would be Load Management being a minimum of 4 games.
