‘Shameless’ Adds More Episodes To Season 9, Will Split It Into Fall & Winter Blocks – TCA

Shameless is gonna be 14 episodes this season, but they're splitting them in half, Walking Dead style. I'm happy we're getting more episodes, but not feeling them splitting up the episodes. They should put the rest of the episodes on their ON DEMAND/ONLINE for people who want to watch them all.

Shameless will split its upcoming Season 9 into fall and winter blocks for the first time, with Showtime boosting the episode order for its hit original series from 12 to 14. The moves were unveiled at the premium network’s summer TCA session today at the Beverly Hilton.

Showtime renewed the series for a ninth season back in November, just after its successful Season 8 debut. The long-running series will air its 100th episode in Week 4 this season during the fall block, which will now consist of seven episodes and premiere Sunday, September 9, wrapping October 21. The winter half will bow Sunday, January 20, 2019.

Emmy Rossum Is Leaving Shameless After 9 Seasons

It looks like Frank Gallagher needs to work on his parenting skills: Emmy Rossum is leaving Shameless, she announced on Thursday.

Rossum, 31, plays scrappy Chicago native Fiona Gallagher, who keeps her family together despite her absentee father Frank’s (William H. Macy) antics.

She announced her departure in a lengthy Facebook post, writing, “It’s hard thing to put into words, feelings. But I’m going to try. This business is always an adventure, full of travel and opportunities to tell stories. Usually as an actor, every few months, you travel to a new place, start a new project, build a new character, learn new rhythms, new inside jokes with your crew, make new friends.”

“Until ‘Shameless’ came into my life 8 years ago, I led that kind of transient wonderful life of an actor. And I never realized how much I actually craved the kind of continuity that this show has given me. And given all of us in the crew. Season after season I’m amazed that our same crew comes back. And it’s not just because it’s a wonderfully written, wonderfully layered show. There are these real connections, real friendships that bring us back season after season after season,” she added. “See, in real life, unlike Fiona, I’m an only child. I never had a big family. Being ensconced in that messy Gallagher family love is something I’d always dreamed of. But even off set, it feels real. We’ve watched the kids grow up into the strong, talented, independent human beings that they are.”

She also praised her character: “The opportunity to play Fiona has been a gift. There are few characters — female or otherwise — as layered and dynamic. She is a mother lion, fierce, flawed and sexually liberated. She is injured, vulnerable, but will never give up. She is living in an economic depression, but refuses to be depressed. She is resourceful. She is loyal. She is brave. I knew it the second I read the pilot script, this was different, this was special.”

“I know you will continue on without me, for now,” she concluded. “There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”

Shameless, an adaptation of a British show, premiered on Showtime in 2011.

In 2016, Rossum made headlines when she refused to sign on for the Showtime drama’s eighth season unless she was offered more than Macy to make up for the seven years she was paid significantly less. Days later, the Golden Globe-nominated actress and Warner Bros. came to terms on a new contract.

Season 9 premieres Sept. 9 on Showtime.

I always thought they should follow the UK formula of focusing on the neighborhood and rotating characters with Frank as a constant. She's had a good run and showed the goods every season...:salute:

Show gotta end, it’s limping and now Fiona gone :mjcry:

I don't want it end. The good thing is, Showtime & John Wells (the showrunner) don't want it to end either. They're gonna have to find a badass actress to replace Fiona in season 10. They also need to bring Jimmy back.

Jimmy was supposed to come back and save Fiona :mjcry::to:

With today's news, I guess we now know how Fiona is going to be written off. And agreed, as a fan the show should end this seasons. Still love the fukker, but the two biggest season-ending story arcs they had (Frank saying fukk death and Monica dying/her funeral with Frank) should have been saved for a final season.
