Yup. They were notorious for that. I don't blame the rappers either for collecting checks. The issue was white execs didn't believe a black man could sell movie tickets in a lead role unless said black man was already famous. Hence it was a lot of rappers and also comedians.

i.e. instead of getting an up and coming young black actor to be the new action star in XXX once Vin stepped away, they went with 5'8 Ice Cube.

Add Jessie T. Usher to the list. I've called him trash in the past many times, but the lastest season of The Boys proved that he is serious as an actor. I wish the best for him in the future.

That is kinda true now that I think about it. Back in the day, big name rappers all did a movie or two. Nas (Belly), X (Belly/Exit Wounds), Cube (BNTH), Pac (Juice/Poetic Justice), 50 Cent (GRODT), TI (ATL), Em (8 Mile). Damn near none of the big rappers today have done legit movie roles.

I asked this question before. The newest rapper that has had an acting presence lately is Kid Cudi. I couldn't think of anyone newer that's been doing it seriously.

I just remembered Tobe Nwigwe and Freddie Gibbs have been in stuff. The more popular rappers like Lil Baby, and Lil Durk haven't been in movies.

I guess Meg is the closest answer. I'm not sure if Coco Jones acted or sung first. Theres also the Bailey sisters.
