Boseman and Majors are the only real major losses here. Shamiek has never been a high profile actor. Spider-verse is the most popular and successful thing he's lead as of late and that's a voice role.
I say we're still pretty good. Yahya, Coleman Domingo, Aldis, Boyega, MBJ, Chiwetel, Denzel and his sons, Aaron Pierre, Kaluuya,.etc are still out here doing things.
When you factor that Hollywood in general is no longer movie star driven but IP driven...
and that streaming didn't exist back in the day + tv was looked down upon compared to cinema, which further limited the availability and diversity of roles for black actors...
...compared to how things were back then in the dark ages of the 00s following the Denzel/Will/Wesley 90s, the pool of black actors is actually stronger than it's ever been. No longer relying on Ja Rule for the movie roles lol
I made a post on the coli a little over a decade ago citing a lengthy article/study about how there was essentially
zero up and coming black actors in Hollywood, and how noticeable it was getting. To an extent Hollywood may have took notice but really what happened was streaming.
Aldis Hodge could've never played Alex Cross 10-15 years ago; they'd have curved him like they did Idris for a Tyler Perry or a rapper or pivoted to Morgan Freeman or Sam Jack like they always did (see: Shaft). But now an Aldis, Coleman Domingo, Aaron Pierre etc -none being household names- can become leads of the #1 streaming shows/movies in America, as we saw these past 2-3 months.
