Once he grew up and hit Young & The Restless his status amongst black people, especially black women, soared.

Probably because his mother wasn't that comfortable around Black peopleSounds like his mother was the source of the problem. Why they gotta move everywhere to escape racism? Why couldn't they just live in a black area of whatever country they live in?
