Serious discussion no fanboy shyt. I was reading articles online about Xbox Gamepass and how the purchase of Bethesda changes everything completely.

How could Sony combat? Should they create their own version of Gamepass?

Xbox singlehanded destroys Sony tax on video games at 70 dollars with a $9 subscription fee that always plays multiple generation of games via cellphones etc... With the addition of EA Access possibly Sega and now Bethesda.

This might be the end of Sony if they don’t come out with a quick game plan to combat. ‘Sony exclusives won’t be enough this generation and those games take years to make.

They already have their own version of Gamespass. It’s called PlayStation Now. It just isn’t pushed by them as much as Gamespass is.

Also lol @ this might be the end of Sony. Why does everything have to be an absolute?

They'll create their own at some point. GP is a real threat to their ecosystem. Just like they had to with PSN and trophies and shyt.

The market thinning out and it might become too late to grab publishers over. They messed up and thought shyt was the same as 20 years ago and that’s the problem with Asian business models. Nintendo is a breed that has a cult following (exception) but they never innovate business schemes and Sony is now stuck in the mud. If I was in their offices I would be panicking.

They have had ample opportunities to create a lane for backward compatibility roll into a service but they refused and now Microsoft owns that lane completely. PSnow completely garbage. I don’t know how they will recover

I agree. Not only do they have to try to duplicate GP but one up it as well. They were able to do that with PSN vs XBL with PS+ and free games. I wont say its over but they need to get on this shyt yesterday in order to stop fallin behind.

Be willing to drop day one, no extra cost 1st party games and they will be right there.

They wouldn't even need to offer much third party. Their 1st party is a monster on its own.

PSNow is right there, waiting for an overhaul.

I just don’t know if the numbers will work out. The numbers advantage with GamePass is the PC market.

They already got started on it with the PS Plus Now thing that offers mostly last gen 1st party titles.

They could kind of compete by offering 3rd party games on it, but M$ has a huge head start

They have the games to do it. I just don’t think they have the infrastructure as readily available like msft.

Jim Ryan has mentioned they do intend to push psnow more this generation tho.

Also I think they are wanting to see if this is really viable for Microsoft, long term.

Remember, it took awhile for all of the major telecom companies/movie studios to make a Netflix like service.

And come to think of it, movie studios are still reluctant to release big movies on streaming services, day one, instead of the traditional movie release. Msft is doing something that’s only done in music. So it’s really unprecedented in most forms of entertainment media.

They will most likely make the full commitment when the numbers show that it is best for them to so.

Sony has stock holders to appease and it will may be hard to sell people on givng up a proven formula (60/70 dollar games, day one) vs streaming day one. One formula has gotten them market leadership. The other is still in the works.

this is not to say game pass is not the future, just that msft and Sony are looking at things from two different angles. Game pass shifts the paradigm and makes Sony play on MSFT terms, which is what you want if you are not the current market leader but not when you are in a position of comfort and top dog.

it’s like being married for years, then contemplating divorce. You really trying to be in these streets, after years out the game? Nah you want that security of your wife and family. But you not going to stay in that marriage if it’s too detrimental to you.

It depends still. A company like Rockstar could shift the dynamic by themselves if they came out and said they are only going to be on one platform vs the other.

I do eventually think this will end like Netflix and Hulu where you eventually will just end up grabbing both because there's too much good content on both to be biased. Especially after consoles become extinct.

Because if consoles become obsolete (which they will) Sony becomes a dinosaur. Now peep below...

Sony fans didn't care and downplayed what Microsoft is doing. I called it future proofing and Sony isn't and can never catch-up. Your Stanbase ignored that only Microsoft, Amazon and Google have mega clouds. Microsoft now the leader in that, I know they spent over 25 billion at the minimum on their cloud solution while Sony Gaikai cost 350 million. It's only capable of streaming in 720p and that fluctuates. Isn't designed to handle anything necessary to run like gamepass does from a technical standpoint but you never once even began to think about that even tho I been here with pom-poms since 2013 screaming this like :damn:

Most ppl who speak on this don't even understand why gamepass is great. They talk shyt about the non AAA games when in reality that's the secret sauce for the service. but I digress yet again...

To put it in perspective Microsoft makes more off the cloud per year than Sony is worth
Cloud growth continues to power Microsoft as company beats estimates with $33.1B in revenue

I think it will come to the point where Sony will have to accept gamepass if Microsoft keeps buying huge companies like this.

By next generation, we might be looking at a situation where only EA and Activision are producing third party games for all systems. Microsoft will force Nintendo and Sony to include gamepass to have access to most games.

I dont think Sony is dedicated enough nor has the income to make PSNow a competitive service.
