Destiny 2 is now the best-selling game in 2017 and third in the charts for the best-selling titles in the last 12 months. As a result of its success, Activision Blizzard was the top publisher in September, and it’s also now the top-selling publisher in the past 12 months.

Visual Concepts’ NBA 2K18, which launched on September 19, also topped the charts for 2017. After its first month of sales, NBA 2K18 is the best-selling sports game year-to-date.

“NBA 2K18 had the largest consumer spend in launch month of any sports genre title since the current generation of consoles launched in November 2013,” said Piscatella.

Another first is Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, which launched on August 29 and became the best-selling third-party title on the Nintendo Switch.

  1. Destiny 2*
  2. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands

  4. Madden NFL 18
  5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild**
  6. Grand Theft Auto V

Hardware & accessories
Hardware spending was up last month, generating $316 million in revenue though consumers weren’t buying as many portable consoles. Sales were driven by the Nintendo Switch, SNES Classic, and PlayStation 4, which is still the best-selling console year-to-date. All together, hardware sales have grown year-to-date to $2.1 billion, which is up 20 percent as compared to 2016.

“Sony’s PlayStation 4 led all hardware platforms in consumer spend during September 2017, while Nintendo Switch sold the most units amongst the current generation consoles,” said Piscatella. “SNES Classic was the overall top unit selling hardware platform in the period.”

Just as PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch consoles drove growth for hardware, so did their controllers in the accessories category. The DualShock 4 Wireless Controller Black for the PlayStation 4 was the best-selling accessory last month, while the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is the top-selling accessory year-to-date.

Accessories and PC game cards, which NPD is now tracking starting with the September report, were up 9 percent last month year-to-date and generated $150 million.

Destiny 2 numbers are impressive, especially considering the PC version has yet to launch (but wouldn't be included in this anyway)
Mario + Rabbids :myman:
MvCI honestly performed better than I thought it would, although we don't know actual numbers.
Samus :mjcry: Why they put our girl on 3DS at the very end of its lifecycle?
Splatoon 2 doesn't have the legs I thought it would :jbhmm:
XB1 don't even get a mention in hardware sales :heh:
October poised to be a big month. Shadow of War dropped as well as Forza, South Park, Gran Turismo, and the big trifecta of Mario Odyssey, A.C. and Wolfenstein II.

Had no idea destiny was gonna open that huge, very impressive first 8 months really just preseason.
Mario performed well very impressive
Actually thought mvc would be lower
Really npd shoes that gamers as a whole aren't well represented in the press, everyone said NBA 2k was problematic but it's already made more money than madden or FIFA that's crazy
Shadow of war gon have a huge launch as well.

Mario and Rabbids at five is amazing. Ubi is going to sell 2-3M+ of that game, aren't they? Pretty good for what doesn't seem like a hugely-budgeted game.

Live had to debut with less than 75k on two platforms :mjlol:

Fukk nba live:pachaha:

Was Live a full priced $60 title? These charts are revenue based. So more expensive games can chart higher than others even if they sold less copies. Metroid for example was the 8th best selling game of the month according to Nintendo (and no they can't lie about that, they're a publicly traded company) but it charted at 12 cause 3DS games are $40, not $60.

Those numbers would be incredible.
I'm not sure what XCOM sales numbers are but in terms of console games, I'm pretty sure that would make Mario + Rabbids the best selling SRPG/TRPG ever made.

oddeysey bout to come thru with that napalm
Gonna be interesting to see where it places. Shadow of War will have been out the entire month on 3 separate platforms with far bigger install bases and Assassin's Creed is out on the same day. Not sure Odyssey will be number 1 for October but it will have ridiculous legs. Odyssey will chart until well into next year.

I'm not sure what XCOM sales numbers are but in terms of console games, I'm pretty sure that would make Mario + Rabbids the best selling SRPG/TRPG ever made.

Fire Emblem Awakenings and Fire Emblem Fates are probably the two biggest sellers in that genre for console, and they both hit around 1.8M, so yeah, if Rabbids hits a legitimate 2M, it probably would be the best seller of its genre on console for all time.

The thing is that because the NPD numbers don't add digital sales, and because going digital on Switch is particularly convenient if you're using it as a handheld, Mario + Rabbids is probably doing as well or even better digitally than it is physically. That's crazy for a game with a concept most people shyt on as soon as they heard about it, and it's crazy for a SRPG. This game might be the shock game of the year for a number of reasons.
obligatory who the hell is still buying GTAV for it to be that high :gucci:

Then imagine that not only are they still selling copies of the game, but they're making bank off GTA online, too. That game has to be on a short list for most profitable games of all time.

The bad thing is that they have no financial interest in ever putting out some single-player story DLC because it's cheaper and easier to just keep running GTA online. I would still buy single-player, story-focused DLC for this game even considering how old it is.

I also would buy this game for the third time after getting it on 360 and PS4 if they put it out on Switch, though, so maybe I just have problems.
