why not ban all potential weapons then? Knives, sticks, sharp rocks.

I'm by means no gun nut, nor am i against a ban on certain weapon, i just don't think banning will have an affect on the overall situation.

OUr culture is the problem, one of violence and glorification of said violence.

If this guy didn't have a gun or access to one would he have been any less unstable? Why a school? (media?)

The gun issue is a very small problem overall in regards to Our attitudes about violence in general. For all our claims of civility and such we're a violent country.

:whoa: we were talking about regulating bullets

You dont think a black market will be created for bullets that are smuggled from mexico?

wouldn't they just buy them from gun runners in the streets? :dwillhuh:

Its economics ya'll. If you decrease the legal supply then the price of illegal bullets would have to be higher. You would have to know somebody and be willing to pay more. That would automatically weed out a large number of shooters and decrease the amount of shootings...which is the point.

no it wouldn't the supply wouldn't decrease supply would just come from somewhere else if anything they would just increase a demand for the product

look there are already tons of guns on the street right now , in every city and state here. making bullets more expensive is not going to put a dent in this machine

I think am one of the view people that believe we need to stop looking at this gun issue from a hardware standpoint but really as a cultural issue, American culture thrives and loves violence and guns. That difference between us and these nations who have way lower murder rates , we need to rethink culturally who we are as nation.

:russ: like thats ever going to happen though

Naw it would decrease. Just like if you had to buy condoms with a prescription instead of at the gas station/grocery store/drug store...the supply and the use of condoms would decrease.

Controlling supply = reducing supply. Yeah there would be a black market and some people that knew how to transport a lot of bullets from Mexico would make a lot of money selling bootleg bullets. But the price of bullets would pretty much increase no matter what...

Where are the guns coming from and why does it seem "easy" for criminals to access them?

Why doesn't the gov start a "war" on illegal guns (if a war can be started on drugs, illegal guns should be fought against too:yeshrug:).

Increase the cost of bullets
,

And whats the issue with these background checks? How can a nation with as much violence and govt surveillance/paranoia as the US allow people to purchase tools of destruction without (strict) background checks:why:?

where do you think the vast majority of those guns and ammo come from? The vast majority are originally bought legally. I dunno if this would work, but it would work or no, but any barrier is a good one. There's a huge misconception that some black market of guns being smuggled into the country exists. It doesn't. Why? Because there are not enough guns being manufactured outside of this country to come close to meeting the demand. We export guns.

I think its funny. If they started confiscating guns tomorrow, it would be pretty easy because there's nothing coming in and criminals are mostly idiots. That's probably not what many want to hear, but that's the reality. We are gun nuts and we have the majority of them. These aren't drugs that grow well in other places. These are devices that mostly military people and police have.

Do ya'll also believe that hand grenades and land mines should be sold to law abiding citizens?

Serious question.

oh my bad:smile:
i get that it would be harder for people to fire their weapons, dude at this school had hundereds of bullets with him i hear. IF his mom or whatever only had a limited amount this story, while still a tragedy, would be remarkably different.

Personally i think more gun control is needed, particularly in my state (AZ).

Also let's keep it 100. The few horrific times someone has done this at a school it wasn't Paco and Tyrone your neighbor hood gang bangers, it was Skip and Chuck the disgruntled white kids with EASY ACCESS to a plethora of guns.

Gun control is needed, if not guns then the bullets. It might create a blackmarket for bullets but that's why we have police and ATF trying to bust up those types of things.
