I enjoyed it. I Did a book report on the madam back in middle school but I had no idea there was so much drama and shiesty people she had to deal with outside of sexism. She worked damn hard and is an inspiration. Glad this type of project for her came out eventually

I'm happy about the subject matter, but this could have been a lot better. I need to read more about her actual story, but they should have gone more with the actual truth rather than fictional drama. Like why the need for fake colorism? How did she actually navigate as a Black Businesswoman in a male world? This movie is what her story would be if a 2020 Black Woman went back in time and played Madam CJ Walker. What actually happened? How did she navigate racism? This could have been the best TV Show of the year. A show filled with real emotion, heartbreak and comedy. A show that shows the searing reality of racism in the early 1900s on the one hand, and Black people's determination to overcome on the other. Instead what we get is a superficial feel-good story where the greatest drama is the rivalry between Madam CJ Walker and her light-skinned antagonist.

This Annie Great Great niece seen this reposted online.

This what turned me off from this. That sista wasn’t no hater. Even if they were business competitors. That’s fukk up the way they did it.

I’m tired of these old movies with new music. Pay some inner school high school band to produce something similar from that error. Most would never know. I still enjoyed this.

no need to mention the boxing scenes. Octavia the best actress in the game. She carried this, along with OG Underwood.

There was some goofiness in it, but all in all, it was solid. Wish it was 6 episodes so it could explored her business acumen and explored the racism.

Really thought it was a missed opportunity in this regard. A black businesswoman at the turn of the 19th century. Could've wrote at least 2 more episodes. And the cast was stacked, so I don't think it was a budget issue.

This is actually a good watch. (on Ep 3)

Netflix giving the bag for stories like this? :mjcry:

Well-shot, written well, and tells a story about someone I didn't know much about. :yeshrug:

The culture needs more "inspired by" the lives of cats we never heard of who did big things their way, and represent our history.

That being said, no lie I started out like :francis:
Then I recognized more and more actors like :ohhh:
Then the story played out like :ehh:
Then I just enjoyed it all like :wow:

Give a chance if you quarantined, it's a good look.

Good shyt!

Just my opinion, but yall got Netflix, innit?

:usure:

Gotta rate this pleasantly, yet thoroughly surprisingly enjoyable.

fukk my thoughts, just watch it. Glad Netflix did the Madame well. :salute:

Movie is pure trash. Tiffany Haddish ruined it. Wowww they dropped the ball on telling the REAL version of her story and glossed over pertinent details. They emasculated the fuk out of her husband. And had to make it a hateful competition element between two black females that wasn’t even true. They just had to insert the lesbian agenda into this that no one asked for. Blair Underwood was the best thing about this movie - I guess Octavia is the “face” of everything now - as if no other older black actresses exist. Another fail attempt at telling a very important and historically accurate portrayal just like “Harriet”. Disturbing to see and the end result when the story gets in the wrong hands. No disrespect to your opinion though. Just mad at the outcome.

They added all the fictionalized and false conflicts for dramatic purposes. This received the Hollywood treatment unfortunately.
