Lets never forget what Tariq Nasheed said in 2018. This is the man who just a few months ago, I watched Coli posters put him over Ralph McDaniels, Davey D, KRS One and Afrika Bambatta as the go to guy for Hip Hop history.

It really is a hard thing to discuss though. Because if it's rooted in reggae, decades old Caribbean culture, or ancient African tribal culture, as some want to argue dating it's earliest influences, it wouldn't be Black "American". So it really is a game of semantics, and people can't be on both sides. Plus, we can't pinpoint exactly when the pieces combined to become hip-hop. It's always going to be a sensitive topic, because it's hard to dissect.

However, hip-hop is 100% American, and I'd say inner city American to be more specific
NYC is uniquely immigrant influenced that that unsettles guys like Tariq who are from Alabama/LA.

Hip hop is black american. Rooted in black american culture and black american music. Hip hop was contributed to heavily by Caribbean Americans. Doesn't change its roots and culture. Muthafukkas didn't just come to New York and GIVE us Hip hop. Hip hop is rooted in AMERICAN culture, music, experiences, etc etc. Not foreign. nikkas tryna erase us from our own history is which is corny. Black Americans created 95% of modern music.

nikka I don't subscribe to that division bullshyt. I dont care about this FBA wars or none of that shyt. I care about black american history being preserved tho. Black Americans is the most hated yet imitated group in the world and that's even by other black cultures. I wish all of our people would stick together and cut the bullshyt out. But not speaking the real history of things is ALSO a division tactic to further take credit from us and our experience in this country as CREATORS, INNOVATORS, AND PIONEERS. I'm tired of it. Are u black american? Cause if not I understand why u don't get why would we be sensitive about shyt like this. Based on our experience and our family experience in this country. Look at the title of that IG post I posted. They literally tried to remove black Americans from the fold all together. Yet I dont see u having a problem with that.

Little off topic but the older you get the more you start to realize just how pointless and backwards that all the categorizing/dividing/grouping people as this and that really is.

Black people? Okay, but what kind of black people?
Caribbean? Okay, but what part of the Caribbean?
Jamaica? Okay, but where in Jamaica?
Spanishtown? Okay, but North or South?
North? Okay, but what neighborhood?
Etc…

It’s ridiculous, lol. I understand tribalism, it was a key component to our survival as a species…but we should be wayyyyyy past that at this point in our timeline.

But whatever, 🤷🏽‍♂️, keep highlighting any and all differences, 🫡
