I agree with everyone but I think it runs backwards. It's not some inherently racist sentiment that some ad exec couldn't suppress anymore, it's that the racist aspect of the ad doesn't matter.
I can't remember the last time I saw a j crew ad. Most of us on the board would normally look right past them but now even we have a long thread on it, this is on the front page of reddit, this will show up on Huff Po and other news sites.
They did their job. It's disgusting and anybody with half a brain can see why it's inappropriate, but they didn't care because they knew the shyt it'd kick up.
What's the downside of what they've done? No one's gonna get fired and thousands of people will end up discussing this when they wouldn't have even noticed otherwise. No such thing as bad publicity kind of deal.
