can someone explain to me how a linebacker chasing a quarterback is in a defenseless position?

Exactly, if Tate tagged Lee on the opposite side of field, I can see how Lee would a defenseless player. But, Lee was closing in on QB Wilson at full speed. That was a perfect crackback.

To me, the problem really isn't the play, but rather how the COWBOYS got penalized for 15 yards by Carter pushing Lynch out of bounds.

I think the flag was for pushing Wilson when was clearly out of bounds. It was a weak call but it was the QB.

Great block in my opinion (and Sean Lee is my favorite non-Steeler in the league) and should be legal

But isn't this essentially the "Hines Ward" rule? I don't think this type of hit is legal anymore regardless of whether or not it should be

I have no problem with the hit personally. However, if that's the case we should throw that defenseless receiver BS out the rule book. There's no difference between this and what' they've been flagged for. Had Sean Lee did the same to Tate the officials would have a field day.

Yeah but he actually wasn't out of bounds yet. I didn't see it as clear as day. Do you have a video of it? It was a poor call on Carter regardless though. But they probably would have scored on that possession anyway.
