I watched this hit live at Twinz Peak, and the entire bar went crazy. I can't believe Cowboys head Coach Jaon Garrett is calling for the league to review this hit. This was a perfect executed crackback hit by Golden Tate.

:damn:

The Seahawks punked the Cowboys the entire game. I was thinking that after Golden Tate layed a hit on Sean Lee that severe and that Seattle still had possession of the ball, that someboy from the Cowboys would've had a late hit on the QB, WR, TE, anybody. Naw, not the Cowboys, they just took the abuse.

Seems to be a split on whether this is legal or not.

Taken from another site:
Helmet to helmet is illegal. But face to chest is not illegal. And he didn't launch. Just leaned into a block like you're taught to do. Better than going low and taking out knees

Still illegal under the rule. Defenseless player rule coves that exact hit as well. New rule this year.

he left his feet and led with his helmet grounds for suspension and a massive fine

“It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture.
(a) Players in a defenseless posture are: [. . .]
(2) A receiver attempting to catch a pass; or who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player;
[. . .]
(b) Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
(1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him; and
(2) Lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/”hairline” parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player’s body.”

Either way, :damn:

I saw that block comin the whole way, too.

I was like, "Here it comessssssss.........BAM!"

Personally, I think it was fine. Golden Tate cant weight but about a buck 90 or so, Sean Lee would run over him if didnt put effort into the block. Was it premeditated? Sure.....but I thought he led with his shoulder and hit him in the sternum.

One thing commish Howdy Doody needs to realize is that you cannot completely separate ur head(helmet) away when leading with your shoulder. And wearign raised shoulder pads makes it even less able to do so

Only argument I could see for that being illegal is saying Tate launched himself and that's iffy imo. Lee is a defenseless player by the letter of the rule, but I don't think Tate's hit can be called unnecessary. Plus, he wasn't really leading with his helmet. Any helmet to helmet was accidental.
