What did you learn from this doc? And where do you rate it with regards to other sports docs?
The doc did show that he was a borderline gambling addict. I don't think the masses knew that. The Jordan rules snitch theories that was new to me. Other than that there were many gems like him organizing pickup games while filming Space Jam or playing at MSG in Air Jordan 1s
The Pippen background story was also new to me. I think I had read that he was under paid for his whole career with the Bulls but I was younger not at all interested with contracts and stuff so the doc explained that quite well.
Phil Jackson's bit on his early coaching career in Puerto Rico was another highlight
Couple other things I'm forgetting
Overall it was well put together but I don't think it is the definitive Jordan documentary (would have to include his impact on the sneakers industry and on young black athletes)
The OJ Simpson one remains the best sports doc/anthology I've ever watched. That shyt is a damn masterpiece.
The 2 Escobars 30 for 30 I rate higher too.

new interview

You and Michael Jordan seemed to have a special bond in the film. When you were both on your game, it seemed like the team was going to win. Was that the case?

Yeah, that relationship, we established that we felt like that in the late 80s, playing against the Pistons, just starting to grow and mature and have each other’s backs. We grew up together and we defended each other. That respect we had on the court, that competitiveness we took through to the top – it was special. That was the respect we had for each other, because we had to be on the court to do what we did. We had to be dominant.

How accurate was the The Last Dance in showing what went on?

I don’t think it was that accurate in terms of really defining what was accomplished in one of the greatest eras of basketball, but also by two of the greatest players – and one could even put that aside and say the greatest team of all time. I didn’t think those things stood out in the documentary. I thought it was more about Michael trying to uplift himself and to be glorified [the series was co-produced by Jordan’s Jump 23 company]. I think it also backfired to some degree in that people got a chance to see what kind of personality Michael had.

Have you spoken to him about your opinion of series?

Yeah. I told him I wasn’t too pleased with it. He accepted it. He said, “hey, you’re right”. That was pretty much it.

He ain't have final cut though and for Scottie that might've made all the difference.

It's not a matter if Scottie is right or wrong (after all both narratively and IRL, things went in MJs favor moreso than Scottie)I'm just saying I can understand why hed feel that way with his depiction, especially since this doc was so popular.

I can tell you never watched the bulls back then.
all because everyone knows Scottie schlup'd.
when mike came back because he was not paid what he felt he was worth.

I have been posting in ths community on sports since 1998.
that was always brought up in any rant. I made about Scottie back then till now. Scottie was easily the most Egotistical bull and the truth hurts.
when real talk,..after mike the best social person who was a bull was the mvp of Chicago nightlife cliff levingston.
