I think a lot of people confuse art and business. Hollywood does not care about the art of storytelling, they care about how much money they can recoup from their investment. That's why there's so many Fast and Furious movies, that's why they keep remastering old franchises like superheroes and classic horror movie icons. We, as consumers do not care about the art of storytelling as much as we say we do. That's why Fast and Furious does so well every time it comes out, and new creative movies sometimes get completely swept under the radar.
The problem is most of the most creative and innovative artists in the world look down on the business side of this as they feel it waters down their art, and choose to ignore it instead of incorporating it into what they make. It's not dumb to say Hollywood is adapting your book because they want to make big bucks from it, it is the truth. You can either:
- Go full indie, produce it as a small time experience. Whether you start a kickstarter, YouTube channel, Discord, etc, build it from the ground up, and grow your fanbase to the point where Hollywood understands there is a reliable market for it, and are willing to pick it up.
- Weave your creative and innovative genius into a story that Hollywood believes will sell.
- or ignore the business aspect completely, and be a creative genius that no one except your friends and family know.
