apparently its more impressive when a man/woman with a lab coat says it in this technological age

It should be more impressive IMO. The guy in the labcoat will be laughed at by his peers and lose his way of life if his experiments arent done in a way that can be reproduced and his results are made up or phony. "Even a broken clock is correct once a day"

It took a while before they figured things out. That wouldn't happen if they have read the holy book.

the thing about that earth is a sphere thing is weird. they then contradict themselves in the same book (Isaiah) and say that the earth is flat and stands on four pillars.

"He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved."

"Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble."

And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Bible is like a jigsaw puzzle. Depending on how you look at it, it may look like a contradiction to each other.

Not religious myself, but reading those lines I interpreted them differently than what you state here. I thought that:

1. Means the Earth cannot be moved so simply from it's place. It's pretty secure. With gravity, mass, and etc. I find this to be true.

2. The earthquakes are strong enough to shake Earth from it's axis and whatnot, in which as far as I know this is also true.

3. Just a figure of speech, not saying the Earth is flat.

I find that picture the OP posted intriguing. I wonder how much of science is actually in the bible now.

The Earth itself cannot be moved, but the land of the earth has moved.

The earth surface moves out of its places often. Ex: tectonic plates, earthquakes, etc. So the foundation of the ground can change. We see it with homes and building which experience the same over years. The Earth used to be one big land mass until it was separated into the continents we know today.

As far as the four corners of the earth. We have a north and south pole, right? Yes Don't we have an east and west? Yes. All this relates to where Israel is. Does that mean we believe that the earth is a square? No.

Its harder for us to comprehend fours corners on a sphere, but look at a globe and you can determine north, south, east, west regardless of how you spin the globe. Forget the countries on the globe for a second and you will understand. The gravitational pull of the earth exists regardless of the corner of the earth you are on. Pulling towards the earth core. If the gravitational pull only can come from 1 or 2 or 3 corners of the globe, we would be screwed. But on 4 we are not. Imagine an unbreakable globe in a room held up on 4 pillars pushing from equal distance from another (north, south east west) ,with the same force. Does the globe move? No. So in a way, we can deem the gravitational pull on the earth as invisible pillars. After all, we believe that air moves in different directions even though we cant see air. Same can be applied to gravity, we can feel it, but can't see it. The bible is a spiritual book, so you have to think deeper to understand it :wow:

I really do believe there is/was divine knowledge in the bible and other holy books that can't be explained by anybody :manny:

Leave it alone homie, you know what it is with these guys. You see why I don't even bother.

Intelligence and religion are mutually exclusive concepts friend, I dont blame them
